Voluntary taxes- Speeding and running red lights

I have got a few - can count them on one hand after 30++ years driving and riding. One speed and red light camera near my running circuit flashed at least 5 times every time I ran towards it. Speeding and running red lights I assume. I did a ripper near Warrnabool in a 80km zone which was a school zone- clock in car was out! One month license suspension!

I wonder how many millions a camera or two would take if on pedestrian crossing. Love to see that myself

Fess up- who is paying all the Voluntary taxes?

Came close years ago when I had a very brief affair with a Rover P6 3500S (manual and quite uncommon). Up near Eildon I was pulled over and was told I was doing 107kph. I was told that the speed wasn't why I got pulled over - he wanted to know if the car was for sale and if so how much ? We exchanged phone numbers and I eventually sold it to him at a slight profit. He did tell me to keep the speed down a bit though.
We still keep in touch and he still has the car which is now on club reg after having a restoration from the ground up.
    Cheers,

Luckily all my offences were in my youth.
Not to say I don’t flex speed limits, just not been converted to fines etc.

In one week, back in the early days of speed cameras I severely damaged my budget.

$3000 in camera fines and a radar stop.
The officer was gracious and reduced the recorded offence to the lesser speed bracket - 72 in a 60. Reality was around 105.

The final straw that saw me have a walk for 3 months was on a return trip from Perth solo. I’d been cruising at $1.60 from Norseman onwards. Heading through Kimba I had slowed to 60 but the speed kept creeping up and by the time I’d crossed the rail and passed the Galah was back around $1.30.

Sadly, at 1am the only set of headlights I’d seen for hours belonged to a Highway Vehicle. I pulled up, 2 meters in front of the 110 sign. He told me if I’d been beyond it he wouldn’t have bothered.

Since that walk I’ve had 1 recorded infraction, coming back from the suit fitting for my wedding (20 years+).
Again, passing the dickhead test got that reduced to the lowest offence.

I’ve had a few cautions and a few “slow it down” waves but that’s it since.

Since '84,when i had to walk for a while,6 months,i have had one Red light, and one speeding fine.

In those days it was all done on paper,so it took them ages to eventually catch up with drivers, many just went over the border and got a NSW license, all good.

We drive all day,and often go through 6 or more speed cameras a day.Actually this morning i went through 4.

I drive by the garmin these days,so know exactly the speed i am going.

In fact the one speeding fine i got was not long ago was when they changed the M1 to 90km/hr,for the games.
It has been 100Km/hr for the last 50yrs,and here i was trundling along at 101Km/hr,9.00pm at night, hardly a car on the road

Twice only - both a long time ago when they were first introduced.

One was just after I moved into the house I'm in now - the road leading to the estate was a 70 zone when I built, then 60, then 50, then 40, then back to 50 with a 40 at the School. Done for 59 in a 50 zone a week after it was dropped from 60 to 50...

Other time was a brain fart on East link - went under one I knew was there while thinking of other things - 108 in a 100 zone.

All the times I was really going quick was when I was young and dumb and in those days you could talk your way out of a ticket if you were nice - best I managed was when I overtook a Cop car doing 180 once - didn't realise - it was dark and as I went past him his lights came on... Ooops, damn near crapped myself - thought I'd be walking for a long time, but let off with a warning.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

    Humm

Voluntary taxes - Speeding and running red lights,,,

    Hummm,, let’s not go there

Some silly clown I just happen to know quite well, forgets he has a lead foot
I’ve only done my brief once as a kid,, 3 months (but allowed to drive for work only ) but alas, have paid a bit of tax on occasion. Owning GT’s and “warm-ish type” V8’s, does nothing for ones wallet,,, but **** me, sooo much fun

I have only had one fan mail years ago. It's sort of embarrassing when I know I owned plenty of big V8s and really nice and/or quick cars in my 35 years of driving.
I got done 10klm over (60klm) driving a 15 year old (diesel) D2 towing a trailer load of furniture.
I thought it was 80. Plain and simple I missed the sign.
I drive 800+ klm a week for work, mostly city traffic, and then go for a drive on the weekend....I drive through literally hundreds of speed zone changes weekly. I just missed one!
I'm ****ed that I got done tho.
Has it changed my driving habits? Have I learnt anything...No.
