    Wycheproof.......No Power!!

Drove up from Melbourne yesterday for today's Wycheproof Cup, and,.....no power in the town,....anywhere, ...... went off around 2.00pm, came back on around 8.30pm.
It's quite strange, for us anyway, couldn't fuel up as no power at the pumps, couldn't buy any supplies, because all the shops closed, BUT, both the Pubs remained open, but again, quite a unique experience, sipping a wine in an almost dark bar, by the light of a candle!
The Cup's on today & rain is forecast for the afternoon. Hopefully the lack of power will not have affected pre race preparations at the track too much, food etc, as it's a very big event for the Racing Club, and also a pretty important day for the town.
It was quite a big outage, thousands of homes affected, I think it by a malfunction at a sub station at Charlton.
    Pickles.

Oops, Feeder 3 from Charlton Zone Sub feeds Wyche. They’ve done a ton of work on the sub in the last few years - not enough obviously. Also, the Charlton ZS is a radial 66 out of Bendigo, so only one pole needs taking out and you’ll send Charlton, Wyche, Boort, Wedderburn, Donald, St Arnaud and surrounds dark. Could be a lot more than Wyche out. Hope you get power back soon.

I’ve run that whole sub on Gensets on multiple occasions over the years when maintenance is required on that line. Need about 15MW all in to do it and that’s on a cool day. Summer peak on that line is over 25MW.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

As far as these things go Gav, I think it was pretty big, locations from as far south as St Arnaud to North around Sea Lake lost power.
But all was good for the Races today, except that we had a terrible day (financially!)!!!...Naahhh, it's all good, we're not big punters, we know nothing about horse racing, it's all just a bit of fun, but it's a REALLY good social day,....everybody's up for a laugh, a bit of a chat etc,.....and we had TWO trains down the main street of Wyche today!

Sounds like the 66KV from Bendigo went down to the ZS in Charlton, it covers all those areas. Glad you had a good day despite the lack of electrons. 👍

[Basil Fawlty on] Oh no, don't mention trains, I did but I think I got away with it[/Basil Fawlty off]

I read that & thought,"Wotcha talking about Willis?" Interesting Town. Port Pirie SA was like that, rail down the centre.

I stopped at the bakery in Deepwater, for smoko, a couple of weeks ago, not knowing there was absolutely no power in the village. I got me chocolate eclair, with fresh cream, for half price. Can't complain about that.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
