    Vale Mike Raymond

Another motorsport legend has passed. I don't recall Mike ever being a driver but his comentating was always very passionate.

R.I.P. Mike. Never one of my favorites, but definitely did a good job for Ch 7.

Mike and his brother Steve were largely responsible for motorsport getting the huge coverage it had in the 70's.

He was passionate about it and pushed it like crazy at 7

IIRC his love was Speedway, but he'd push anything that had an engine and went fast with his TV bosses for coverage, and we have to thank him for that, and the many developments the 7 Network brought to motorsport coverage.

Like most Sydney based journos his commenting was very Sydney-centric. If it didn't happen in Sydney then it either didn't happen or was not worthy of comment.

Maybe because he worked for a Sydney station?

He wouldn't have had much say on what the Brisbane and Melbourne stations put to air, and what he did behind the scenes was tireless.
He kept motor racing in most forms at the forefront of the general public consciousness through his constant effort in the 70's and 70's
