The forecast is for a cat2 storm to cross the coast between here and Kalbarri, wind gusts of 70 to 80kts near the centre of the storm.
Hopefully it will pass fast and far enough away that we avoid the full force of those winds But either way tomorrow arvo/night will be "interesting"[bigwhistle]
All is good Bob this cyclone is not my first rodeo, I lived and worked in the Pilbara for more than 2 decades.
All the loose stuff has been put away and the boat and van are hooked up to the D2a and the 79 series and they are parked in the paddock away from trees and power lines.
Our house is over 100 years old and has super thick granite walls so it isn't going to get blown away.
The gensets are set up and are ready to go when the power gets cut off and we should be just fine[thumbsupbig]
My BIL refuses to drop his shade sails and he seems to think that he doesn't need to prepare for a bad storm thinking that this is just another summer storm.
He has never been through a cyclone before and I am absolutely certain that he will get quite a shock IF this storm comes too close.
I am hopeing that he is right about this just being a storm in a teacup But somehow I doubt it.
I did try and talk him into taking this seriously but he wouldn't have a bar of that.
They are only 6k's away and I will go and check on them when it is safe to do so on Monday.
It hasn't even started here yet and I am not expecting anything much to happen until this afternoon.
We have had a bit of rain which will keep the dust down thankfully as the last big storm we had here covered everything in the old house/sheds with a thick layer of fine dust which was a royal PITA to clean up.
IF things go "Pear shaped" the Sister and BIL are on their own until the storm has passed But like my joint their old house is also based on a solid stone walled main building which should survive even a cat 3 storm.
Just lost the roof off the old shed and the rain is coming sideways at a fair rate of knots.
According to the BOM radar the eye of this cyclone is only 20-30k's away But thankfully it is to the North of us so hopefully this mayhem will slow down to a dull roar in an hour or so from now.
Pretty "Hairy" outside at the moment [tonguewink]
The eye came within 1-2Ks of my place.
The glass at the airport went down to 976.1hpa and the strongest wing gust was only 120kph But that is about 12k's from here.
Calming down a fair bit now that the eye has slid past thankfully.
I will give it half an hour or so before I go out and assess the damage done.
