The countryside around Brisbane has also had a lot of rain and greened up nicely, lots of cattle/sheep in the fields and I hardly see kangaroos and rabbits near the road as conditions must be so good in the bush, some of the dirt roads I like to drive are actually getting dangerous now, as the grass is so long it would obscure cars around bends, also the tar roads have had so much water on/under them that there are a few potholes around.

Yesterday went into town for the first time since before Christmas. The stretch of the Newell from Brocklehurst to Troy Bridge road coming into Dubbo has had the speed limit cut from 90 to 60 because of the number of potholes - mostly not really potholes, but where the underlying roadbase has softened and subsided, leaving a depression the with of a pair of dual truck wheels, a metre to a metre and a half long, and up to ten or fifteen centimetres deep. No problem for the County, but I can see why you would want to slow down in a truck, for example.

Interestingly, it only affects the southbound lane.

Same thing here in Murrindindi Shire in Victoria. The slip road into Melbourne (Melba Highway) has some massive depressions. Hit one on my himalayan the other day and it nearly launched me into oncoming traffic. Definitely changed my undies when I got home!

Into our 6th day of 40C+ here and ZERO rain for the last few weeks.
We usually get 2-3 days of 40C+ in Jan/Feb and we usually just grin and bear it But 6 days in a row of this heat is a bit much .
Please send some of your rain and storms this way if you don't want them, I promise I won't complain

I think most of it is falling in SA and NT at the moment - our turn when it moves east later in the week!

I arrived in Cloncurry late Friday arvo, it has been ****ing down pretty much ever since.
Think I might be spending longer than a week here this time. Nice, but I do have work to do.

Australia's biggest swamp, the Stuart Hwy. Truckies have to make a 3,000 km detour to deliver their loads.
