No winch. Next door came over on his four wheel bike to help this morning,a d we extracted it using a hi-lift jack, a chainsaw to cut billets of wood, and four plastic tracks about a metre long.

Got bogged again at the same level on the other side of the hill, repeat performance, but easier because it was downhill, although harder because we were exhausted. Stopped on the first hard ground, and lowered tyre pressure.

Bogged for the fourth time about 100m further on when I made the mistake of not sticking strictly to the old track, even if bumpy. Was able to back out of that with half a hollow tree under the lh back wheel.

Then drove the rest of the way home nearly flat out in lo-4, centre diff locked like it had been all the time. My helper followed on the four wheeler. He reckoned I "had big balls". I'll have to walk down and see how deep a tracks I left in the soft spots!

    Well done John.
Sometimes a little momentum is necessary.

You can now take it easy for the rest of the day.

Today's effort - a surprise soft patch on the side of a hill. The front one drove out once the tension on the strap was reduced enough to remove the draw-bar pin but have to go back with a long cable to get further away and use a 2nd driver too.

Bears a remarkable similarity to the incident for which the help I got this morning was a quid pro quo.DSCN0341.jpg
I was driving the bulldozer (but obviously using the phone in this picture). The young bloke who helped me today was working away and his mother got the tractor bogged.

During last year's harvest both my tractors were needed in tandem to extract my header from its multiple boggings. Tomorrow I'm hoping to buy a 2nd strap to get further away and to have a backup if the current one breaks.

Right at the moment, I would not care to drive anything except a four wheeler pretty much anywhere on either of our places! And it keeps raining. Had another light shower an hour ago.

The aftermath of a wasted afternoon. An area had been sprayed-out for the windrower comb trailer so no vegetation to use the moisture and now obviously unsuitable for the comb trailer.

I got Dengue and Ross river at the same time years ago

Had red dots climbing up my arms and it felt like it took two minutes to take step

Never ever want that lot back, took months to get over it
