A bit of info on how LA Nina will affect our summer. The good news? Shouldn't be any dangerous bush fires, we should be free from heat extremes, and there will be much needed drought relief for farmers. Hughie, however, may be very busy.

I think a few farmers round here with bogged headers and shot and sprung grain are not real keen on more rain at the moment. And definitely not the ones down in the riverina who can drive a boat over their grain which was ready to harvest last week.

I dare say you are correct. But it's a big country, while some may suffer in the short term, others will prosper, and the restoration of ground water and irrigation storage can only be good for the future. But that's a bitter pill to swallow for those less fortunate in the short term, for sure.

With some misgiving I decided to go ahead with the trip to town, we only had about 5mm overnight. Got heavier as I left, but no real dramas, although the creek was surprisingly deep and seemed to have scoured a channel. Very wet going in to town, to the extent that I had some problems with near aquaplaning on parts of the bitumen where it was falling too fast to run off. Kept speed down to 80-90 all the way into town, where there had been no significant rain.

Walked about without having to put on a jacket or to open the umbrella, and left for home about 12.30 started off with the wipers doing a single sweep every minute or so, but by 10km from town had them on continuous, and by 30km out, they were on high speed.

Road in was very wet, (centre diff locked coming off the bitumen) and all the usual waterholes were full (mostly about 0.5m), with the gullies running fast and wide, some up to or over 0.5m. The creek crossing near my gate I got stuck for a minute or so in about 0.75m of fast running water - went in slow in 1H, got the front wheels through an unexpected gutter about 30cm deep, but stalled as the front wheels were going up the steep bank when the back wheels went in the gutter. Changed to low range and crawled out in 1L after restarting the engine. Thence no issues to home.

The gauge says we have had about 50mm since I emptied it at 0600. Dubbo airport still says no rain since midnight.

64 mm overnight, luckily coincided with low tide, highs only 2.13, no problems yet. Steady rain, not torrential. Should get thru this ok.

Measured only 46mm this morning - despite light rain all afternoon and into the dark. It was less than I expected, very little more than when I got home.

The Town of Inglewood was evacuated overnight, Macintyre Brook reached 11,15 metres, and rising. Some parts of Qld have had 180 mm of rain. Goondiwindi under flood watch. Shades of 2011, but no major house losses yet. We should be thankful for small mercy's.
