It's perversely amusing when one goes to great lengths to get rid of weeds and then you find out there are markets for them.

Asians apparently like Fat Hen in stir fries, nettles get used to make a tea and portulaca is about to become the new super food.

We've had so much rain in Brisbane that grass/weeds are starting to grow in the cracks in the roads in the suburbs, normally you only see this out in the countryside on quiet roads.

Woken this morning at 0530 by thunder and lightning. Only 3mm at 0600, but it has been raining ever since. The Namoi radar stopped working this morning (of course), but the satellite shows that there is a storm pretty much right overhead. It is barely moving, but is slowly fading out.

I was watching the BCC contractor who is suppose to spray the weeds/grass that grows the road & gutter & expansion joints in the gutter , didn't see him spray one weed , he only sprays in a straight line up the middle of the gutter , complete waist of time & money , guess he is keeping him self in work by not killing any weeds. He could save even more money by just spraying water as the chemicals are in the gutter where the water runs so it all ends up in the drain .

All depends who you get I suppose, the last 2 weekends I went for a drive down the nearest dirt road to me, and it has been badly damaged, with 2 to 3 foot gutters washed out along the sides, and some places have washouts extending 2 to 3 foot into the roadway, also the creeks have cut around the edges of the concrete slabs put in to help get across creeks, (one so bad the gap had to be filled with sandbags), and a couple of crossings had a lot of sand deposited in them. Of the two councils responsible for this road, one end put up "road flooded" and "traffic hazard" signs, the other put up a "road closed" sign.

Closing the road is very unhelpful for the people who live down there, would've been better to have a 4WD Only sign the 1st week, and it should be open to all cars now as they removed the silt in the creek crossings that would stop a low clearance vehicle. Mine struggled on one, as I had it in 2nd or 3rd high and it started to stall from the drag of the silt under the car, but I just pushed the gear lever to auto and it changed down and got through.

    ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.......

    HEY HUGHIE......ENOUGH , ENOUGH , ENOUGH

just driving heavy rain here all day and tonight.

the stormwater coming off the residences above fllood 2drs up which is flooding next door like a lake which is overflowing into our yard and its starting to look like it's not getting away fast enough.

others around here must be worse off.......all local roads will be closed soon....if not already.

    bugger.

Bottom of the gauge wet but not enough to measure this morning. More forecast today - but then there was yesterday as well!

I am planning to head to town though - things have dried out enough that the road should be passable even if the rain is as heavy as forecast.

4.8mm here, yesterday. 150.4mm for the month. We are in cloud and it has just started drizzling, as I type.
