Storm here in Westlake Brisbane had lots of noise but not much wet stuff, just enough to settle the dust.
First storm of the summer.

23 mm. Too late for the orange tree, most of the flowers have been burnt to a crisp. Filled the tank, if it rains in Jan., my tomatoes and egg plant's [ egg plant relish, yummm, just the thing on sao's for lunch for my diabetes 2 diet] might survive the summer with hand watering from the tank. Then I will just pull everything out and prepare the beds properly for when the real rain comes. Cooler this morning, the bees are happier. My finger lime and beans, and cabbage [ for sauerkraut] , look like they may be ok , again with hand watering from the tank. Even though we are not on water restrictions yet, I've put us on level 2, voluntarily. Even the birds are happier this morning. One thing I've noticed is there are not so many young birds around this year. Normally the magpies and butcher birds introduce their young to us to show the freeloaders where to get a meal by now. none yet. Normally the storms split over the top of us, and go around north and south. Straight over the top of us, for the first time in a while. It's amazing what a bit of rain can do to your mood. Hang in there farmers, If I could bottle it and send it to you, I would. Your turn will come.

At out place the ground is wet this morning but 1/4" down is dry.
Good to see you got some rain, Bob. 100 mm plus would be nice but 23 mm is nothing to sneeze at, hey? Our maggies haven't produced an offspring for two years now but we do have three new butchies.
Unfortunately, we remain dry although our two 5k gallon house tanks are still well over half each.
I drove past Lake Kurwongbah last Saturday and it's looking good.
It must have been quite patchy - at home in Sherwood we got around 100mm.
Cheers,
Neil

Bob, my wife was in your suburb yesterday arvo and reckons there was more good rain.
I asked the daughter if we had any rain at Maleny. Her reply: "Ten drops".
Yep. 65 mm but there was a lot of wind, and we lost power. A good wake up call. Just enough rain to show which gutters need cleaning, and the length of storm pipe that no 1 son has driven over in his H-H-H- hilux and cracked it. The most disappointing thing? We had set up our Projecta power hub with Lithium battery to the LED light strip, and cooked dinner on the gas stove, listening to country music on our battery radio, just settling in to a night of reading, and the blasted lights came on. So we were forced to watch TV. At least the cricket was on, much to SWMBO disgust. At least she had a good book.

The first rainfall smelt of smoke, rather than the normal rain smell. Good to get rain, need some to fall onto the fires and into town water catchments.
