When I mean 'in the middle of the slip lane', I reckon that if you measured the area with a theodolite and staff you could not have found a more accurate place within the slip lane as being 'in the middle of'. There was only the very very occasional upward glance towards oncoming traffic. The vast majority of their attention was on their mobile.

If myself and the other drivers were not paying attention we would have been able to achieve any of the person's aspirations about being a model. We could of allowed them to fulfil their dreams by their becoming an ornament on our car's bonnet. The most frustrating aspect of this person's rampant stupidity is that the driver that collected them would be charged with negligent driving causing either harm or death. Apparently there is no law about rampant stupidity. I suppose our already crowded gaols would be even more bursting at their rims if there was one.

I suppose there would be one aspect to consider regarding if the person in question became a hood ornament on a Mack truck instead of just a sedan. At least they would not contribute to the gene pool. Is that too grumpy a thing to write?

Okay, Guys do I fit the entrance requirements for me to join this thread - or do I have to try harder?

Same issue at the local shops,i am driving along looking for a park,looked at the pedestrian crossing i am about to drive over.No one on the crossing so all good.No one standing waiting for me to stop so all good.
Then comes a young lady,pushing an occupied pram,on the phone,just stepped out,didn't look left or right,just wanders across.

Luckily i did see her and had time to stop.

The other day I bought some take away chips which I hardly ever do, and it made me wonder if there is a potato shortage as they seem to have turned baby potatoes into chips, really small and fiddly and annoying to eat.

There has been a chip and potato shortage for a while now.[bigsad]

I wonder if I am getting old?

Yesterday I was doing some machining on my small lathe-mill-drill.

After drilling a couple of small holes for rivets I rivetted the two bits together and then put the job in the chuck to drill a larger hole (needed to be fairly precise) with a drill bit in the tailstock chuck. Changed the drive from the vertical shaft to the headstock.

Drill would not start cutting despite there being as pilot hole. "It doesn't look that blunt?". But I took the drill bit out and sharpened it.

Repeat exercise - twice!

Then the penny dropped. The reason it was not cutting was because drills do not cut when turned backwards. Because the vertical shaft has an extra set of gears between it and the motor, when changing between the two you need to change the reversing switch!

That is not being old J D, that is just being male , human, distracted, preoccupied, forgetful, unattentive.....mmmm

Grumble - Grumble... I had a four day long-weekend mapped out that included a list of Land Rover achievements I had planned to tick off the 'To Do list'. As things sometimes happen, new opportunities arise that diverge away from your planned activities. Yes, the new opportunities were even enjoyable! So, the agenda gets jumbled and rearranged. Some things are set aside for another day. Others are merely rescheduled with only the planned for day for the activity slightly postponed. Then along comes a lurgy that must have been waiting in the wings for its opportunity to strike the unwary. Out the door goes all the plans for the rest of the weekend. Bugger .... grumble .... grumble.

Went in to town today. Book I ordered a month ago not in. Printer I bought a week ago not in despite being given a maximum of seven days for it to arrive, will be Thursday or Friday. Person I needed to see at Westpac not available. Went across town to get lunch. Phone call - book is in. Went back across town, got book. Grandkid with me persuaded me to buy another book, for him. Other grandkid cadged $35 for a new phone case, promised to repay (I know how that works!).

Headed for home, got close to turn off from bitumen, smoke everywhere, six firetrucks with lights flashing at turnoff, but fire is on the other side of the bitumen (seems to be a hazard reduction burn on the other side of the bitumen, reignited by the strong winds today.

Got home. Kid had left the pantry door open, and my dear dog has chewed a hole in a 10kg bag of dogfood and eaten about three days rations (I think, not sure how much was in the bag).

Checked email. Email from Officeworks, sent one hour after I was there. "Printer is in, advise when you are picking it up!"

I am very, very, grumpy!!!
