I don't know about "conversant". I have found a few items I did not know they supplied - like forecast percent cloud cover. But I am not sure how I found that when I was looking for river heights!

There are a number of other things that were readily available on the old site that I have not yet figured out how to find - that is assuming they exist. One thing I can say - the search function is useless!

I have also found the occasional apparent bug, like setting AM forecast temperatures against the PM times (fixed by starting again).

So Sunday night,hail storm decided to arrive all of a sudden.I think the dog thought a war had broken out.

The noise from the hail hitting the house roof and our colourbond shed was rediculous.The larger hail was around 50mm in diameter,it sure hurt when it hits one in the head.Don't ask me how i know.

We raced out and put old blankets on some areas of the vehicles,but they got blown off by the wind,and once waterlogged,some fall off.

Anyway,three vehicles damaged,sons Kluga dings all over it,tail lights smashed.

Hi Ace,only two months old,dents all over it,one huge dent on the bonnet.

Another older Hi Ace,dents, mostly on the roof,so not a real worry,it will be moved on soon anyway,buyers generally don't get a ladder and look at the roof anyway.

Building roofs seem OK,no solar,haven't checked the solar HW yet,but the water is still hot.

Camper and Land Cruiser were under cover.

Anyway,never had hail here in the last 25yrs,and never had a vehicle hail damaged before.

I suppose it could have been worse.Friends had roof tiles broken and huge areas of gyprock ceiling fall down as it got wet.
The SES guys who attended were very helpfull and did a good job tarping the roof.

No hail this end of town, but I was just leaving Cosco Bundamba, when the heavens opened up. From there to the broken Mt Crosby bridge, a usual snail's crawl, was surprisingly good. West of Mt C exit to just short of Blacksoil was a 10~12 kph grind. A tree had fallen across the left lane of the highway. A lone young lady had positioned her Energex truck with lights flashing, to warn westbound traffic. She was out in the bucketing down rain, alone, clearing the road, not power lines, with a pole saw.
Just before Walloon another small tree was blocking the left lane. This time a fire truck was there to warn the motorists, while the four to six burly firefighters sheltered from the by then light shower.
Seems it's true what is said about women having to do four times the work of a man, to prove they're equal.
Bravo that girl.

I tried that once. Bloody hail nearly beat me to death... and the car was insured. Took a while to get it assessed, as thee were about a million cars in the same boat. The paintless boys did a great job, and the only broken thing was a cracked sunroof glass.

big hail has gone through here a few times over the last couple of decades. It usually cuts a narrow path of destruction from what I can tell. These days I store anything valuable under cover (well I don't really have anything of value, but with the crappy old shedding aroudn the place, I can get the cars that matter out of the weather).

Caravans will be the real problem. the cladding is very soft.

that reminds me, I'm off to find the "show us your shed' thread so I can get some more ideas :)

Just had a storm go through here. Big wind an very heavy rain, but only for about half an hour. No hail. But I think it might be an idea to take a chainsaw on y next trip to town!

I had to go to the motel at Borallon this morning,no power,trees down everywhere,power lines down,been quite a bit of wind.Some of the officers said there had been some hail,but dunno if that is correct.

Both their huge gen sets were going flat out,they had used 2500L of diesel since the power went out.Still around 17000 in the tank....

Then onto Lowwood and Rosewood,not as bad out that way.

A mate of mine in Wynnum has huge holes in his asbestos roof,some you could fit your head through.
He is hoping for a new roof,but i dunno if they are going to pay for the old one to be removed.
Mention asbestos to tradies these days and most run away as fast as they can....[biggrin]

Should do. I know someone on the northside who had their asbestos roof removed and replaced with tin, all paid for by insurance.
All rooves in Queensland should be mandated as steel.

Just found out the storm that came through here blew out the large glass windows in the back of the Service NSW offices in Dubbo this afternoon. Actually I think it was negative pressure because the windows fell outside into the car park, and assuming the wind direction was the same as here (Westerly) these were the eastern windows. At the airport the recorded wind speed was 27kts, but seeing those windows have probably been there for at least twenty years, I suspect it may have been locally stronger.
