Grumpy old buggers thread

On Tuesday I had to take my grandson (20) to a dentist in Dubbo to get a wisdom tooth removed. No real issues until the anaesthetic wore off. Since then "it hurts!". He has been taking maximum doses of paracetaol and nurofen since, but complained they were not working.

So yesterday morning we rang the dentist, and he decided it needed looking at. And could fit him in at 1645.

So, off to town, leaving about 1430, to buy a couple of things first. It was 42° when we left the house, the aircon on the County does not work, and it is about an hour's drive into town.

Saw the dentist - "healing perfectly, no problems. What you are taking is best for dental pain, I will phone you on Sunday to check your condition, and if the pain continues, will consider a script for something stronger then".

It was still 39° when we got home. Fortunately, my 15yo granddaughter had cooked dinner and it was ready to serve.

I had had it, and went to bed almost straight after dinner. (Actually waited until 2000, as this was my dog's dinnertime, and she expects me to feed her!)

The 20 year old in question is one of the new generation who refuses to learn to drive, of course.

I've found the best pain remedy for toothache, mouth ulcers, tonsillitis is alcohol. I usually have a couple of tots of port.

My retired neighbour reckons he went to 9 funerals in his home town last year and also his son's boss here in Brisbane.

What makes me grumpy is trying to contact people to inform them of deaths, as towards the end of last year a high school classmate of mine died and I only managed to contact a mutual friend as his son was on LinkedIn.

I think Facebook is the new phone book, if people keep their contact details updated, so I might need to join that, as this year after a lot of research I heard that my boss from 25 years ago had died during Covid.

My advice of 'keep it out of the hatched, matched and dispatched section of the newspapers' probably doesn't apply any more.
Hatched: First born, no worries, kept it out, with some angst from the family. Second born, family out manoeuvred me and we were plagued by predators filling the mail box with financial offers.
Matched: got out manoeuvred again and despite moving interstate within 2 weeks a mail trail followed us for months.
Dispatched: got that one sorted I think, I doubt I'll have a letter box and I'm sure there won't be any internet underground.

Bloody Hell! I just had a shower at Moreton and Hels had put some 'Rose Petal', body wash on the shelf, with my shampoo and normal body wash. With my eyes closed, because of shampoo in my hair, I groped around and found what I thought was my blokey soap. Nuh, covered myself in essence of rose oil! My normal soap won't remove the smell. My 'Head and Shoulders' is useless, too. We're home on the Micat ferry tomorrow. I hope it will wear off, by then. I don't want people to think I'm a politician.

Of course, you could always do what my old dog used to do. Find a ripe sheep’s carcass and roll in it. He didn’t like rose water either.

Just changed the park lights on the Corolla. Where is an aye-aye when you need one.
