Very unique in that they were made for the US military and carried as a survival weapon in aircrew. They were in two halves, under and over, with storage space in the stock for the ammo. The break down action was a simple pin that could be pulled out.
Only had the one trigger which was a small squeeze bar underneath, and the hammer was selected either up or down. It came with a canvas carrying bag and I used to keep it in my helicopter.

I ended up giving all my guns to a mate that had them on his license, and he has since given it to his granddaughter, that is now my "carer."
Sounds very similar, this one is a "Savage" brand. No storage space in the stock, but the two position hammer, etc is very similar.
Single shot, great light gun for kids to learn with, and SWMBO has used it many times as well.
It also has the original canvas carry bag.

Our guess is it is well over 60 yrs old,we inherited it from my Father.
I fitted a 4X40 scope to it many years ago, great rabbit gun,the 410 has knocked lots of wild domestic pigeons out of the air as well.
They used to get in the roof and cielings of the sheds, shearing quarters, and residenses on the property.
Great fun for the kids when they were young teenagers.

Translation for the Non-Senior Service types- Staff Sergeant or Warrant officer Gunnery It would have been a green god for them

In my case it was hold it up at 45° only using the pistol grip. Do that for ten minutes.... Too bloody cold at Kapooka for the other thing...

Didn't know about that one but they did make one in .22 magnum.

A mate had a 22 Mag,bolt action,i can't remember the brand, great on foxes particularly if one was after the skins.May have been an Anschutz, from my not great memory.
It did jam at times, and always at the worse time.

Had a Gevarm (?) like that. It would either jam or empty the mag in one go. Didn’t take me long to move that thing on.

About 15 yrs ago,the inherited half worn out old bolt action Remington .222 had a habit of not going off at times.
It was like a lottery, whether it would fire or not, very cold weather made it worse.
We stopped using it,eventually i took it to a gunsmith, and he fixed it,it has been perfect since.
It had something worn out in the trigger and firing mechanism.Parts were not available,so he made new parts to sort it.
Magazines are also unavailable, luckily we have a spare one.

Soft or hard loads 50 cal is a BOOT PLUS to the shoulder. I didn't feel it at all

    Rifle Recoil Table

JT and my favorite old Navy- Sorry Miliary 7.62 was mild Chuck adds "In 1909, the British Textbook of Small Arms stated that 15 ft. lbs. of free recoil energy was the maximum allowable for a military service rifle. (The standard British .303 Lee-Enfield infantry rifle was below that figure, as are most service rifles to this day. This should tell you something.) The 1929 edition of the same textbook stated, in addition, that recoil velocity should not exceed 15 fps; above that velocity a gun-headache was very likely to occur. These figures remain practical maximums for the modern hunter.
Above this level recoil becomes increasingly intrusive. In addition, the effects of recoil are cumulative. The longer you shoot, and the harder the rifle kicks, the more likely you are to flinch. These are good things to remember when comparing rifle cartridges."

Yours may be 70 ft. lbs. of free recoil energy

I did fire a 50 cal from a Ship of course.
