Ian, you are well out of touch. Lots of canneries and preserving works around Brisbane from the 1920's to the 1990's. Most are, sadly, now closed. Palm Chutney survives only as a brand name of Riviani. The Golden Circle farmer shareholders took their 30 pieces of silver from Heinz and ran. IXL took over State Cannery/Victoria Cross and closed it. Now units. Vita Brits closed and manufacturing taken south. Eta Peanut factory gone somewhere.
Crikey Brian, I wasn't around in the 1920s, nor was my Dad.
Was it ETA margarine on Hanford Road?

ETA in Brisbane was on Wellington Rd approximately opposite Pineapple Park.( and the "Morgue" picture theatre which became an Ice skating rink in about 1960 or so.) And the Shaftston Hotel on the corner.

Eta was right there but correctly it is Raymond Park. The cinema that became a skating rink was on Shafston Ave at Wellington Rd. Ern. Gehrmann of Latrobe St. was the manager for a while. The other corners were East Brisbane P.O., Shafston Hotel, and Pat Coffey's pharmacy. On a slow day Pat would stand in the bar at the Shafston and if anyone went in the shop he would cross over Wellington Rd to serve them. Very little traffic on Wello Rd. then.

I don't remember Anderson Meats boning room. Cramond Radio were in Vulture St. just around the corner from the school. They did two way radios. Just about every small craft on the river and bay had a Cramond Radio.

I suppose the Mynor factory at Herston would qualify as a preserving works. They made fruit juice, fruit cordials and syrups. There were a couple of bacon & ham factories. This probably qualifies as food preserving. Hans Smallgoods was sold to Daikyo but I think it has changed hands again. Not sure of this.

The sad thing is that these factories provided much employment for locals and nearly all these jobs have disappeared.

I didn't know about the juice mob, but on the rare occasions when Breakfast Creek would flood, Smiths (?) Chips would float through Racey Park.

Looking at that image, seems 'elf & safety didn't exist back then as we know it today.

That was it, Red Seal, they were at the end of Gould Road, near the footbridge to Downy Park.
