Of course you would be subject to Driving Tests. Wouldn't you?
most CFS drivers have MR or HR licences, depending on the truck in the station.

im not sure i understand what your asking tho.

I did see a comment about people having to climb ladders but I did not understand this (media hype) as Choules has a well deck and the landing craft just drive in - certainly vision on the ship showed this - no one climbing up the ship's side on rope ladders.
This may have been from one of the local boats that ferried people out before they deployed the landing crafts.

The fixed wing aircraft may have lessor requirements, but as a former owner and operator of helicopters I am interested how they cope.

Another thing that really got my attention was a couple of Ag aircraft on floats picking up water while barrelling down a lake! With cojones like that I am surprised that there was any space left for water!
I'd say they travel with pilots, maintenance and even catering crew if any thing like the Coulson Mars (Martin) water bombers I saw on an episode of "Mighty Planes" and the co's website refers to staffing near the bottom. On the subject of the Aircrane, Jack Erickson leased a few and liked them so much he bought the licence and started building them that's why they are no longer known as Sikorsky Aircranes.

[QUOTE=Tombie;2964167]Bob, it’s was based on having to climb the hull on the rope ladder. Imagine the **** fight if a small kid fell.. or some old bugger..... damned if they do, damned if they don’t.

At the time, flying conditions were perfectly viable.[/QUOTE

]I find it hard to believe they would use a rope ladder when they have a perfectly good well deck, they could simply drive in and walk off. But, of course, if the ladder was the only means to board, it would make sense. However, there was another option. When the Brits had Choules [ it was an RFA, Largs Bay I believe] there is video of a group of reporters visiting the ship, being hoisted by a boat davit, and stepping on board thru a door on the side. Nothing I have read or heard justifies leaving young children overnight in that situation. If the aircraft couldn't fly, ingress through the well deck sounds to me to be a perfect solution. But, I have put out some feelers, and if a perfectly good explanation comes forth [ such as yours ] I will post it. EDIT just thought, are we talking Choules or Sycamore? If Sycamore I take it all back. But it was reported as Choules.

This shows Choules well deck operation.

Different class of vehicle = different Driver qualifications required (or that is how it used to be )

If CFS have only one type then one qualification would apply over the whole Service.

In Vic, you just need the correct Licence for the truck - MR in most cases with tankers and pumpers, etc. No specific additional licence required to drive any of the fire trucks. Was some 4WD training I did but that didn’t preclude me from driving any vehicle. We always knew instinctively when we turned out who was the best driver from those that showed up first. Never any arguments, just get in and get the job done.

General is General Gav. Where do you think this fire thread should be posted? Most (?) here may not, nor wish to be be in CA although the subject is CA

I looked back to see where I may have been in conflict, but couldn't see anything, nor many others as you said.

Des, discussion of the fires in GC is totally acceptable. Moderation only occurred when the thread turned political.
Current Affairs is, in reality, contentious affairs, not being restricted to current events.

why is it media hype to ask why children under 5 could not be taken?

families with children under 5 were left until the next day or the day after, with some still there last i heard because of smoke density stopping flights.
