The correct term for those vessels is A.H.T.S., "Anchor Handling Tug Supply." I was fleet engineer for P&O on them many years ago. If you are referring to an anchor they had on deck it would have belonged to an oil rig, although unless they were taking a new one to a rig the only time an anchor is on the deck is when they take it from the rig to "run the anchor". The rigs at the time used an "Admiralty" type anchor, usually of 15 tons.
Like all such anchoring systems, the weight of a long length of chain is more the "anchor" than the bit on the end.

The supply ships are equipped with many different types of rescue equipment, including a fast motor boat, or a RIB. They have scramble nets that can be deployed over the side, and usually a removable section of the bulwark along the side. The deck is close to the waterline as well, so not difficult to board from the sea.

One of the news reports were referring to the ship as a "trawler"! This one was sent from the Bass Straight where it is employed servicing the production platforms. Cheers

I'm sure bob10 meant for the RAN to pull the finger out & get there & get stuck in OF, but you knew that didn't you?

Sounds like this mob did a grand job with assistance.

I was waiting for your input OF & you didn't disappoint.

Hey, it's the Media OF & it is what we have come to expect from numpties (NB. Not the AULRO ones I hasten to add) & I often finding myself asking 'er indoors in exasperation "Where do they dredge these people up from.?" Usually they are long legged blondes in Stilettos with tits showing & speak through their nasal passages that can't be understood.

Whether it be Weather persons, News readers, TVSN presenters etc. Or others of their ilk.

Oh, no, no, no, PLEASE do not get me started on these talking heads! If they didn't show their tits they would not have a job. And not all of them are blonde haired!

I no longer fly, another casualty of a mis-spent youth leading to loss of medical!

However, the following published in the horror comic has a good description of how fires can cause thunderstorms.

    Beware of bushfireclouds

Pyrocumulus clouds formwhen intensely heated air from bushfires rises into the sky and cools.Condensation from existing atmospheric moisture and moisture evaporated fromburnt vegetation, then combine with ash particles.

I'm referring to the report that the navy wasn't permitted to take on the very young and elderly on the first day. They had to stay ashore, we're talking children 5 and under. Yet the AHTS took on all of the above, 24 hours before the Navy arrived. The media report said it was Choules that refused to take the children, some one said it was because they had to climb up rope ladders, which is a nonsense when you know Choules has a well deck which you can drive a boat in to. The other vessel however [ Sycamore] would perhaps have been more of a challenge for young and elderly to board. I'm only repeating this because I don't think you were aware of my earlier post. I'm aware of the nature and purpose of the AHTS, and the basic principle of anchoring. Still, that's a huge anchor.
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
