    I just used the supercrap jack in anger...flat tyre .

    Guess what....

    the jack doesn't fit under the rear axle, it misses by about 3cm so I had to lift at the spring perch (moving the brake line out to make room).

    Guess what...

    it doesn't extend high enough to get the wheel on..it misses by about 5 mm. I'll have to carry a short length of "4 be 2".

    I miss my Disco Bottle Jack.

    Servicing the Bottle Jack

    Hi all, I just refilled my D2 jack because it would not work. The rubber bung half way up the body of the jack can be removed. You can then fill it with oil. I know engine oil is not the right stuff, but it works
    Mine would not complete stage one let alone stage two. now it works fine...

    I agree it is stoopid to store the jack on it's side (D2), especially considering it's not properly sealed. Never mind that the factory storage almost forces you to put the push in bung facing down so when it get warm it forces the oil OUT. stoopid! stoopd! stoopid!

    You can get the cover down on the storage compartment if you put the jack in with the bung facing up, just needs a little persuasion.

    Good high lift should take a lot of weight. The Rover jacks also take a lot of weight but don't have the same range of height. I use both jacks on my gravel sloped drive with a block of wood under them.

    the reason why you can make the rover jack lift so much is becuase it has compound mechanical advantage.

    1. you get the advantage of small piston driving big piston
    2. you get the length of the lever advantage to drive the little piston.

    the highlift only has the mechanical advantage of the length of the lever.

    That space on mine is taken up by the 2nd battery.
    It now live under the rear of the front pasenger seat
    (jacked under the seat rail so it won't move)
    with the handle under the back seat and wheel brace, everything is in one spot.

    hmmm..... so it would be better if it were stored under the floor in the luggage area, under your camping gear and fridge and every other item you have carefully stacked so it doesn't rattle?

    There are 2 different types of disco bottle jacks, one has a plastic oil tank and the other has a metal one. The metal ones were pre 96 and the plastic tank ones were post. The only diffence is you can hit the metal one with a hammer and it will dent where as the plastic one will shatter. I found a cracked plastic one in a p38, and the wheel well was full of oil, so they do break (i suspect the wheel spanner was dropped on it).

    I agree they are a wonderful jack, however i carry a multistage nissan windup one as they lift higher.
