Yes, if you have never encountered it, it is not immediately obvious what it is. My first attack it was complicated by the fact I had banged my back getting out from under the Landrover, and I thought I had damaged it. Got my sister to have a look, and she said "it looks like some sort of a rash", but even then the penny did not drop. Then there was the problem of getting a doctor's appointment - another two days. So I did not get to the doctor for four days, and the antiviral was ineffective.
Second attack I recognised it immediately - and saw the doctor next day.

I went to a chemist to get something for insect bites that had hung around for a few days and had become annoyingly painful rather than the usual itchy for a short while. After a quick inspection he made a doctor's appointment for 30 mins later on my behalf but also too late for the antiviral. It didn't progress past the lumps.

With regard to vaccinations if you have a Medicare profile logon (MyGov) and look [emoji102] under immunisation history and (if you are over a certain age) it flags immunization shots you are due for and when they are due! For example my next one according to Medicare is Pneumococcal due on my 65 birthday.

I don't have a Medicare profile nor do I have the health care records activated

I checked with my Dr, one doesn't need a booster shot for shingles.
