So why is Toyota not being ' recognised' for its DPF and air box debacle....look at the canning they received on YouTube etc.. surely this must have figured somewhere in the survey?
I smell a rat😎
I don't care about these surveys anyway. As far as I am concerned ALL cars are trouble...either financially or reliabily wise. I buy on what suits me eg. comfort...driveability...looks...space..features.. fit for purpose etc. ..etc...and LR make a product that appeals to me and the missus and the dogs and the horses.
PS the worst car we ever had was a VR Commodore Calais...what a dog of a car🙄 next was a Nissan X Trail with the hopeless Jatco CVT which they still use.
Surveys and statistics...pah!
For so many LR owners the emperor has nary a stitch.
Mmm...I think you are correct...maybe just as well cause the DPF issue would cause significant financial harm to Toyota in the US. I presumed the Tacoma had the same engine...but it is petrol only atm. Not sure re the Prado or vans that have the diesel engine here.
I think service is a major driver of un-reliability. I reckon the Toyota and Lexus dealer located near me say somethings broken when its not. In fact, they do that .... they've done it to me. They said on changing plugs in an RX350 SUV, one was stuck and they'd have to drill the head, maybe put a new head in. I asked what lubricants they used for the plugs and what torque settings they'd used, and queried whether the mechanic was fully trained. Miraculously the spark plug then came out, no damage ... but they then damaged a lead to the CD player which also controls the GPS. It was revenge. The same Lexus dealer when I queried a cracked wing mirror repair cost - their quote was $4,340. They did not return the cracked mirror. I asked for it back, and asked for the service manager. He came out with the mirror, and said that they could only obtain the whole mirror assembly from Japan, hence the high cost. Instead, I got the cracked mirror (and a crack in sort of stripe fake chrome piece on the outside of the mirror) replaced and fitted by a Lexus authorised repairers, who used original Lexus parts (the mirror had a traffic sensor and lights in it to warn the driver which was unusual a few years ago). All up cost was a bit over $500. The Lexus dealer would have done the same but would have stolen almost $4,000 from me.
I have other stories as well.
IMO its not the car as much as it is the greed of the dealer in question, and parts pricing. Just the cost of wiper blades is an insult which would make me complain to a business like JD Power, except that third party ones for the D4 are fairly priced and work just as well as the original ones did. And its likely the USA dealers are not doing the right thing by their clients. Hence the dissatisfaction. I am annoyed my LR dealer did not repair under extended warranty my rear folding seat switch in my D4 2014. And would never replace under warranty the broken rubber on my driver's door. A known issue with the vehicle. Still they are the only things that have gone wrong. OK not quite true - I broke a rear window, but that was my fault. The LR price was huge but my specialist LR service guys got me a 3rd party one for one quarter the ridiculous price of the factory one. The D4 has been the most reliable vehicle I've had and I hope it will continue onwards, not feels like it will although I know things like air suspension will not last forever and will cost some to replace.
An unstated underlying aspect is the actual warranty. LR should be if not "above and beyond" be at least "level and equal" with industry practice. 3 year warranty is no longer good enough, 5 years is the minimum these vehicles should be covered for.
Peter
What new technology have they developed or adopted lately?
They did eventually sort out EAS in the last 10 yrs or so and make it much more reliable, and continually fine tune Traction Control to work with the EAS,therefore making the later vehicles very capable off road, but i can't think of much else.
Oh,they also did join in with Ford to find a way to break crankshafts in the V6 diesels.[bighmmm][bigsad][biggrin]
