The only sights we saw between Perth and here was out the window of 2 ambulances and a Lear 35 (which admittedly was a pretty special ride). We now look out onto the tram lines through Royal Park.

Now, thanks to these useless swines we can't even leave the room without putting on a mask.

The best part? The "new, new rules" we were distributed this afternoon.
    1) Put on mask
    2) Leave room
    2.5) Do stuff
    3) Re-enter room
    4) Remove mask and immediately dispose of in yellow bin

Said yellow bin is outside of the immediate ward area. So I'm supposed to remove the mask and put it in a "contaminated materials" bin that I have to pass through 3 doors to get to. I need a mask on to pass through those 3 doors.

I figured with a box of 50 masks, it'd take me about an hour and a half of "enter room, remove contaminated mask, put on new mask, exit room, dispose of original mask, lather, rinse, repeat". Got to love bureaucracy.

2 last report there were 2 cases in the hospital, one on another part of our ward. Only ~100 days to go and we can go home.

    We got screwed by COVID-19.

My 4 year old required an allogenic bone marrow transplant to treat relapsed acute megakaryoblastic leukemia (in remission in Jan, relapsed in Feb). Our transplant physician was supposed to return from maternity leave in Malaysia in mid May. She got locked down in Malaysia, and left PCH without an accredited transplant physician. At quite late notice they informed us we'd have to uproot and move East (NSW, QLD or VIC) for ~4 months to make this happen, and at even later notice they sent us to RCH.

So here we are. Day 0 was yesterday (donor cell infusion), and we'll be here until some time after day 100 when (all going well) they tell us we can head back West.

So while I'm very grateful to Victoria for having us, I'm pretty ****ed off a the situation and the muppets I see on a daily basis ignoring all the rules.

Edit : And I'm still ****ty COVID-19 took Tim Brooke Taylor....

Sorry to hear about your Daughter Brad. I hope she is doing better than my attempt at pronunciation. So the family is holed up in the ward with her or you visit daily?

Did you finish up taking your Land Rover over?

Brad, I'm really sorry to hear that your daughter, you and your family are having to go through all of this, especially at this time it making it even harder. I've recovered from AML with chemo but without BMT and I have a little bit of an insight via a friend who did have BMT so I partly understand the journey that you will all be on through this. Congrats on the donor and I hope all goes well and that your daughters treatment goes well and you all stay healthy, especially now. My sincerest best wishes.
    Cheers

Best of luck for her and your family - my second oldest arrived at 26 weeks and then spent 4 months in NICU so I know what it's like, and she also was in hospital well away from home.

Cheers lads. He'd be most amused to be referred to as a daughter (did I do that?). Yeah, it's a slog. AML first time round was hard. We did 4 rounds and 170 days in isolation last year. We did 2 rounds and 96 days this year pre-Melb, and we've been in for 12 so far this admission. We've been told to bank on another 60. 35 at best and 95 at worst. It's a long time to keep a 4 year old locked in a room and strapped to a pole. We'll then be in 3 times a week as a day patient until after day 100.

We also have our 6 year old lad with us, and we have my in-laws (need the built in babysitters, cook and bottle washer). As such, we need to keep in isolation as a family unit, so we've rented a 3br place across the park on Flemington rd, and the wife and I alternate 3 on / 3 off in the room. Because of the lockdown there's no real education or supplementary services and absolutely no visitors, so whomever is out comes in for an hour or 2 every day to help kill the boredom.

We did not end up bringing the Antichrist. Of all things I'm driving a Holden (some cheap Korean import) Equinox. We only need to drive about 800M to the hospital and out to the odd Coles click and collect (Dan Murphys deliver!), so it'll do.

So yeah, COVID-19 has made our already slightly trying life a whisker more difficult. Still, at least we're both white and predominately of European descent, which made finding a donor *much* easier (we had 5 good matches). The mixed race families and those from countries with a higher melanin skin content don't get the donor/registry coverage us whities do and treatment becomes exponentially more difficult/dangerous.

Oh, and if you are under 45, fit and healthy, please consider signing up to the Australian Bone Marrow Donor Registry.

There ya go, I get to have a whinge and it's still on-topic!

Oops, sorry about that.... your son! Thats a lot of time on Chemo! Was that to gain a remission and then to prep for the bone marrow transplant?

Thats great news you've got a number of good matches for bone marrow, positive for a good transplant. I understand that the Aboriginal community are extremely difficult for a match and the Japanese are a pretty safe bet.

I agree, people, blood donations are needed to replace blood which is destroyed during Chemo with Leukaemia, and bone marrow donor registration is needed so that an entirely new blood production and immune system can be granted to those with persisting leukaemia - its via blood, not via bone.
    Cheers

Is that '288' positive tests on NO symptoms ? Or symptoms leading to a confirmatory test ? Or "cases" as in heading into hospital?
