When we were in lock down here at the start of this pandemic I had to go to the chemist to pick up some medication and the streets in the town center were pretty much deserted.

Yes, I agree 100% with this - and no idea. I’m only out for work when absolutely necessary and that’s pretty much it (about a day a week) and I’ve been doing my grocery shopping on line and having it delivered so I don’t even go out to the shops.

Guess you just can’t get through to some people.

Most were out exercising or walking their dogs, getting the papers or coffees.

And the roads are deserted - it's the first time I've seen not one car parked along Brunswick Street.

I am pretty certain that walking the dog, getting the newspaper or going out for a coffee can NOT be called "Essential travel".
People Need to take these lock downs VERY Seriously because IF they continue to flaunt the rules or use loopholes to wander around the place instead of simply staying home unless it is absolutely essential to go out we will NEVER be able to take control of this virus.

The latest data is very interesting. Basically mortality rate is close to the flu...but the problem is how easily it spreads...0.05% of even a quarter of Australians on the let it rip proponents view is a lot of deaths. Crazy numbers.

I have little to none sympathy for nursing home owners/admin. They gouge every cent they can from their elderly clients and their families but fight tooth and nail when it's their turn to give something back.

Yep, as a key part of our lock down here in NZ, exercise (locally!) was the only reason to be out and about unless for essential work services. "Locally" was the contentious factor and interpreted many different ways by different people. It all turned out OK in the end here as people got into the swing of the spirit of the lock down as time went on. A real sanity-saver was my regular bike-rides along the river track here. Lock down would not have worked for the majority if some allowance for exercise was not allowed. It was a compromise of sorts. Social distancing was emphasised and even now, I veer away and go wide around people. A 7-week lock down habit.
