A senior Australian Border Force (ABF) officer who allowed 2,700 people to disembark the Ruby Princess cruise ship mistakenly believed passengers displaying "flu-like symptoms" had tested negative to COVID-19, when they had instead tested negative for the common flu.
The ABC can reveal that Border Force command only realized the mistake more than 30 hours after passengers — including 13 who had been isolated in their cabins with fever — had left the ship.
The new revelations challenge Border Force Commissioner Michael Outram's assertion in March that NSW Health was responsible for allowing passengers to disembark.
Indeed, the Federal Government has conceded in correspondence to the NSW Special Commission of Inquiry into the Ruby Princess that "practical" permission had been given for passengers to disembark, even if it had not been formally granted.

It's no wonder these poor buggers keep working. You do what you have to to keep your kids clothed, fed and sheltered.
I recall a time my truck was having a rebuild done under warranty, the second rebuild in a month. The truck was not earning but I still had payments to make on the house and truck as well as a family of five to keep fed.
I would have worked no matter how ill I was. I was fortunate to pick up casual work stacking new concrete blocks on pallets. If I had to, I would have stolen food for my kids.
In one breath people complain about the number of bludgers, in the next, people who go to work. So many people need to be less self centred and look at situations that folk less fortunate than themselves are in. No-one has the right to judge another's method of supporting themselves or family.
As long as they are NOT adversely affecting the health and safety of others I fully agree with you BUT with the workers at the aged care facilities this is NOT the case.Quote:

Having said that I can see how some would just turn up in any state of health or hiding symtoms to continue earning a crust. There a many employers who do not give the same loyalty to employees as they give the employer. Casual staff are treated as disposable, there is always someone else looking for a job. This is a sad situation this country finds itself in and there should be some sort of mandate from government to make a certain percentage of employees perm-parttime so they get sick leave and annual leave, even though at a pro rata calculation. I haven't had a holiday in almost 2 years and it was hard enough to go to the boss and say "hey, I'm gunna need some time off in the near future for surgeory".
There needs to be some sort of 'immediate' support for casuals required to isolate. Applying for sickness benefits through Centrelink and waiting up to 6 weeks for a decision, which may not be in your favour, is not the answer.
