Thanks for speaking up for the other side John.
We've been grocery shopping online since March and find it quite convenient, delivered about 7am, all away in 10 or 15 minutes and the rest of the day to do whatever. We do need to 'top up' occassionally but that usually only involves a few items so in & out of the shop quickly. Only experienced crowding once and sorted that out with a few words of advice to the young offender.
I do like my Barista coffee though and have had no problem at my regular coffee shop.
    Roger

Just observations from almost daily work in almost every supermarket and most large variety stores from Tweed to Yamba and inland to Casino, many hospitality places, and friends observations who own and run those places. FWIW I'm at the high end of middle aged, too. Corona Virus

I take my hat off to retail and hospitality staff.
The rudeness, abuse and lack of respect they put up with daily is awful.
They were the unheralded virtual cannon fodder right through this pandemic

Bravo Zulu - Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer A. Doudna

Fully agree re be nice to the helpful people in retail and services. Adding medical reception, + as the multiple unreasonable demands and expectations for my staff and Doctors to do things may well be a book one day

on the Vaccine front a huge cheer to the two Women who are quietly heralded heroes. The Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2020 was awarded jointly to Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer A. Doudna "for the development of a method for genome editing"

AKA know as CRISPR, It allows scientists to precisely cut any strand of DNA they wish. Sounds high level but at a base level it has enabled already "New test detects coronavirus in just 5 minutes | Science | AAAS"

This has been used by all phama developing Covid 19 vaccines as it and multiplex test enables scienctist to do in minutes what previously took years.

Every place rabbiting on about how fast they are seems to be forgetting to thank and credit these two Superstars.

Developing a vaccine that appears safe and effective in a matter of months, rather than the years or decades that such developments usually take

This month, two very different companies — the pharmaceutical giant Pfizer and the biotech upstart Moderna — reported spectacular results from high-stakes clinical trials of their experimental coronavirus vaccines. It was a remarkable feat: developing a vaccine that appears safe and effective in a matter of months, rather than the years or decades that such developments usually take.

A team of Times reporters — Sharon LaFraniere, Katie Thomas, Noah Weiland, David Gelles, Sheryl Gay Stolberg and Denise Grady — tracked how the extraordinary race unfolded, with so much at stake and such a complex backdrop. At play were not just commercial rivalries and scientific challenges but an ambitious plan to put the federal government’s Operation Warp Speed — and an often toxic political atmosphere created by President Trump — in the middle of the effort.
Pfizer’s chief executive, Dr. Albert Bourla, had vowed to avoid the political minefield but was forced to maneuver through it nonetheless. After promising a timetable that seemed to support Mr. Trump’s prediction of a breakthrough before Election Day, Dr. Bourla pushed back the schedule in late October, fearing his firm’s clinical trial results would otherwise not be convincing enough for federal regulators to grant emergency approval of its vaccine.
Dr. Bourla had chosen from the start to keep Pfizer and its research partner, the German firm BioNTech, at arms length from the government, declining research and development money from Operation Warp Speed.
But Pfizer’s main rival, Moderna, made the opposite bet, embracing the assistance of a government led by a science-denying president. Moderna got nearly $2.5 billion to develop, manufacture and sell its vaccine to the federal government and teamed up with the National Institutes of Health on the scientific work, a highly successful partnership that managed to sidestep the political meddling by Mr. Trump and his aides that had bedeviled other efforts to confront the virus.
Both companies were aided by a confluence of three factors. A new method of developing vaccines was already waiting to be tested, with the coronavirus a perfect target. Sky-high infection rates accelerated the pace of clinical trials, the most time-consuming part of the process. And the government was willing to spend whatever it took, eliminating financial risks and bureaucratic roadblocks and allowing mass production to begin even before the trials were done.
Their apparent success showed that in an era of polarized politics, science was able to break down barriers between government, countries and industry to produce one of the few pieces of good news in a year of suffering and division.

OI! Don't tar us all with same brush Mike. There are considerate older folk as there are considerate Younger folk. The same with Inconsiderate bastards.

Sometimes younger people make it impossible to SD. Try keeping a Supermarket aisle to yourself. It is clear when you enter (Great) but the younger bastards care not, & still want to enter from the other end & not give a **** about anyone else in the Aisle so long as they can quickly collect a couple of packets of Noodles. Rush in/Rush out, "out of my way & **** you mate."

It should be up to the 'Stores Covid Marshalls' to police. Thems the ones with a Tin Star, a Sixshooter or two & a saddled horse tied up in the Car Park.

Once again another generalisation. Wot, never see a younger person coughing & spluttering over everyone nearby? Yeah roight.

They probably don't even own a Handkerchief truth be known. Whoever came up with coughing into your elbow needs a kick in the nuts. Some people can find it very
difficult to have their elbow touch their gob. Try it.

Probably thought of by the same person who thought of 'bumping elbows' instead of shaking hands.

Cough into elbow, then touch another persons elbow, so they can then cough into elbow. That sounds smart.

Maybe touching elbows should be done to the Chicken Dance music.

Right on Windy, & I look at Scomo doing that & think "Jesus Mate you look a right old plonker".

Far better for him to say summat like, "G'day knackers, how they hangin'?" Not very Statesman like I know, but the other person might have been saving up a good line in return & never get the chance to use it. I wonder how Jacinta would take it? Probably summat like, "You bastard Scomo you've pinched me line".

Good idea DDB. If a person has trouble getting Gob to Elbow grab their elbow & roughly force it up to their gob. They may need to go to A&E but that would have that small problem sorted, then Sanitise one's mitts.

    Job Done.

I keep hearing about corona virus being found in sewerage.
No understanding the testing process , but this virus must spread in sufficient numbers in the system to be detected . There is often talk that a traveler to a region my have contributed to the reason for finding in the system.
If someone with Covid uses a toilet, their 1 contribution to the overall quantity of sewerage in the system would surely be diluted and hard to detect unless this bug goes rampant?
