My brother lives in Newcastle but works as a facilities manager at HMAS Kuttabul and Garden Island, as well as other Navy assets around Sydney. He commutes down and back by road each day.

Earlier last week two people he had contact with in Garden Island came down with Covid (they live on the North Shore) and are in hospital. My brother was told to stay home on Friday and to get a Covid test which he did on Friday morning - he stayed at home but did not isolate from his wife and son living in the same house - too hard in that house. Result came back yesterday all clear so all good.

HOWEVER, he gets a message from NSW Health this morning that someone who actually visited him on Thursday afternoon in his office has now been diagnosed with COVID and NSW Health will get back to him - so while he is cleared from the earlier outbreak he could be infected from his interaction on Thursday and it would have been too soon to be picked up by his Friday test. So he is expecting to have to get another test when advised by NSW Health and to have to go into isolation while waiting for future test results.

The issue I have is that my 93 yo Mum lives nearby and is always having problems with her phone and on late Friday, not knowing all of the above, I sent my sister in law around to my Mums to fix her phone. So if my brother did pick up Covid on Thurs there is a chance my brother could have passed it to my Mum via his wife.

Unlikely given incubation times but still a concern. It just highlights how easily transmission over distances does occur.

You got any reference for that? I'm not seeing any international flights into or out of WA.
WA may well be accepting international pax, after they've completed QT in the east.

Came across this on another forum. Witty

Medical experts in London today were asked if it is time to ease the COVID lockdowns.

Allergists were in favour of scratching it, but the Dermatologists advised not to make any rash decisions.

Gastroenterologists had a sort of a gut feeling about it, but the Neurologists thought the Government had a lot of nerve.

Obstetricians felt certain everyone was labouring under a misconception, while Ophthalmologists considered the idea short-sighted.

Many Pathologists yelled, "Over my dead body!"
while the Paediatricians said, "Oh, grow up!"

Psychiatrists thought the whole idea was madness, while Radiologists could see right through it.

Surgeons decided to wash their hands of the whole thing and pharmacists claimed it would be a bitter pill to swallow.

Plastic Surgeons opined that this proposal would "put a whole new face on the matter."

Podiatrists thought it was a step forward, but Urologists were ****ed off by the whole idea.

Anaesthetists thought the whole idea was a gas, and the Cardiologists didn't have the heart to say no.

In the end, the Proctologists won out, leaving the entire decision up to the a**holes in politics

I think Trout is correct as I remember the WA Premier announcing it a while back - but like most States and Territories they are not taking their fair share with the majority of the heavy lifting in this area is being done by NSW hence higher risks on NSW than other jurisdictions.

I listened to the WA premier yesterday and he is obviously playing up to his local constituents - I was almost convinced that the whole of Australia rides on WA's back, they certainly live in a world of their own.

Edit - see here WA to receive an extra 500 international arrivals per week by October 11 amid ADF support pledge - ABC News

NSW takes thousands including the majority heading to WA.

vs 22 international flights into Melbourne today.

I read somewhere that the number of flights into a region is dictated by the number of suitable quarantine facilities.

This was straight out trolling by the WA Premier, and I'd call it deflection as his government's ability to test, track and trace has been called into question in the last two days
