I was in the market for new boots a couple years ago.

Went to RM's and other leading boot businesses but couldn't find a comfortable boot to walk out of the shop.

Ended up buying a pair from Rivers, cant see why RM's are so expensive when the Rivers are made same construction and are bloody comfortable and 1/4 price.

Rivers used to be great quality. Turned to rubbish for a while at least. Given your experience perhaps that has balanced out and they are back. My boots for long back packing trips are not steel toed. they might be boys toys

For many years I wore RM's until they simply got too expensive for the amount of time I wore shoes or boots after I retired. I have an inherited foot deformity called bilateral halus varus which is common in people of North European and Scandinavian ancestry. My feet are wide, slightly curved, and have protruding big toes. I always had trouble buying foot wear. R.M.Williams used to make to measure for a modest extra charge. They would post you measurement forms on which you would trace your foot and provide a number of measurements. They still do this but I don't know what they charge nowadays.

They still make the Gardener and Yard work boots.

The Craftsman boot the guy cut up in the video is a pure dress boot and not the top line Craftsman which is made from kangaroo leather. The Tambo is a Craftsman in a wider last. Very comfortable. I always had a pair of Santa Fe in suede with a flat heel.

I'd love a pair of RM's but struggle to justify the cost.

My Blunnies recently split across the sole, they were seconds from Rays Outdoors and I've had them for years. The leather had aged well and they were comfortable so it was a shame to throw them out.
I had a pair of Redbacks which I hadn't worn for maybe 8 - 10 years because the elastic stretched. Started wearing them and the the soles literally fell apart while I was walking leaving a trail of debris in Bunnings. There was a foam layer which had gone all sticky and the sole broke into pieces.

Googled Blundstone and found that they have an outlet shop in Derrimut. Limited range which regularly changes and they often have discontinued lines (like brown boots with pink elastic & pink thread).
The 500 has been discontinued, the latest version with or without steels are $50 inc GST
They also have lace ups but it's pot luck whether they will have your size in a style you like.......worth a visit if you happen to be in the area.

I did ask when last in the shop and they are now made in various locations around the world.
