Selection Criterion... Personal Drive and Integrity

    Hello All,

I am swamped in the joys of responding to Selection Criteria. What increases the difficulty of this activity is different interpretations between employers.

How would you respond to the following criterion when they have previously asked detailed questions under

    Motivation
: Commitment to professional and self-development with a focus on qualifications/skills update and contemporary industry practices including safe, equitable and anti-discriminatory work practices.

Continuously improving and exploring new ways to do their job successfully

The selection criterion I am struggling with is this one ...

    Personal drive and integrity
    • Seeks out opportunities for personal and professional development and additional responsibility in order to learn new skills and grow.

Yes it could be considered funny that I am stumped about how to answer this selection criterion.

Yes mine is not to reason why - just to meekly comply and insert a response.

However, what would you provide an as example to the Personal Drive and Integrity without duplicating the previous criteria about Motivation, Continuous Improvement and Self-directed professional development?

To me, most frequently Personal Drive and Integrity is accompanied by such things as the ability to understand and comply with the Privacy Act (1988), Confidentiality and Intellectual Property policies. Also, various Discrimination Acts and Cultural Competency. Plus, OH & S.

Or have I missed the mark? Maybe I just have job application fatigue - sigh.

    Kind regards
    Lionel

I appreciate the opportunity to address this matter at this stage of the interview process, some of the questions I usually ask near the end of a job application and interview process overshadow these very topics.

I consider my self to be an avid self educator and problem solver, I have found this to be an area of some criticism in the past when in an effort to accomplish the intent of a given task I have had cause to improvise around a normal work method to achieve a favourable result within a given time frame in situations that fall outside the scope of what is considered to be the normal operating conditions. Understanding the environmental factors that lead to the deviation from the normal task conditions has often left me aware of an additional complimentary skill set that would enhance my capability to complete routine tasks in a more timely fashion while underpinning my capability to expediently solve similar issues in the future and given the opportunity to assist others in overcoming similar challenges.

It goes without saying that in order to assist others a diverse field of interpersonal relationships, boundary, understandings and tolerances need to be developed respected nurtured and accepted. I address these pillars with the same enthusiasm as I do developing my own technical capabilities to offer the most approachable and diverse skillset applicable to the routine roles. I do this with the intent of projecting a sociably calm influence for the cultivation of a harmonious team focused environment where all may play to their strengths and none might hold back from asking another for assistance in an area of lesser strength of fear from prejudice belittlement or derogation.

It would be remiss of me not to enquire at this point, What are the companies policies and intents to assist me in furthering my personal development within the reasonable bounds to my considerations?

    That help?
    Dave

For the on the personal drive and integrity question I would be trying to find an example of volunteering in your field of expertise, the difference between the criterion to me is that one is your work ethos and learning on the boss's dollar and the other is all the things that you do to use your skills for a better world whilst gaining experience in your own time, sorry I can't bull**** as well as blknight....

Thanks Dave, Yes Tote - Dave's effort was pretty impressive wasn't it!

Thank you both for your contributions. Between them I have been able to formulate a response.

Well all done for that application. Just file it away for two days and then look at it with a fresh pair of eyes before submitting it before the due date. Weee

    Kind regards
    Lionel
