Tomorrow is May 1st and that is Exactly what will be happening in the back paddock here as we are then allowed to burn off, It is usually after April 15th But this year the fire ban was extended tp April 30th.
$148 for a trailer full of logs is bloody highway robbery, It's no wonder why so many people dump their rubbish in the bush with Pirates like that at the tip
That load would have cost nothing to dump here and IF you wanted after you have dumped the logs you could have filled up with free mulch as a backload![]()

I used to burn it when we lived in the bush in Vic, but now we live 250m from the beach up north, on a tiny block. Its just a small sacrifice we have to pay for this new lifestyle.
Wish it was mate, but no. Our local tip charges $140 for a tandem trailer load of rubbish, but luckily we get a tip pass each year for that and I get the one off my neighbor too and she will throw a few things into my load, so haven't paid myself but they know how to charge that's for sure.
Cardboard, steel, appliances, paint and green waste are all free to dispose of.

The $16 I paid to go to the tip yesterday was pretty typical of what I have paid in the past for our 8 x 6 box trailer with cage, fully loaded with household rubbish and/or greenwaste, at Sunshine Coast tips.
In Logan we had free vouchers as residents. Brisbane and Logan also had a couple of roadside collections each year.
Someone dumped a large barbecue on the roadside near us last weekend, so I guess that was a protest at tip charges. I asked the council to remove it.
At what level do tip charges become counter productive because people refuse to pay and start dumping their rubbish on roadsides and in forests? Its a balancing act
Normally the Sunshine Coast council has free coarse mulch, so you can get your greenwaste back in a usable form for the garden, but none was available yesterday at any of the Sunshine Coast council's tips.
I did notice someone had dumped dozens of solar panels in one of the skips yesterday, which I haven't seen previously, so they would cost the council something to get rid of.
There seems to be a wide variation in charges around the country.
Gold Coast tips are free.
I find this amazing.
We have 3 residences, Cloncurry, Ravenshoe & Doomadgee.
Ravenshoe is free they don't even give you a second look & the bloke helps you empty the trailer.
Cloncurry is free but they ask your address.
And Doomadgee, of course, has absolutely no controls.
I used to send our used cooking oil out to Mt Isa for proper disposal at great expense but noticed the other take away was just pouring theirs in the hole. So now we just re-drum it & dump it. Organic I suppose?
So, there is some advantage to living half way to nowhere!
