Dino riders was a favourite, they rode dinosaurs and put all sorts of mounted laser guns and equipment on them.

I don't recognise any of those cartoons ED, but I remember when cartoonswere weekly publications, like Woman's Day for kids.

One of the best comic/cartoon mags, which I subscribed to for years, was the 'Heavy Metal' publication. Way ahead of it's time. I had every issue I bought carefully stored in carton and foolishly lent them to someone. This person decamped with them and I've never seen either again.

Read a fascinating history about Ogedi and the other Mongel leaders a few years ago. Forget the name, but their empire really was remarkable and much bigger than I had realised, including most of Asia and across to the edge of Europe.

Agree. I thought they were just a wild mob who descended like a mob of locusts , but further reading shows they were very good administrators, and when Ogedei gave his Generals carte blanche to operate independently, they were brilliant tacticians. Only Europe's flooded plains and mountainous regions, where the Mongols couldn't use their horses effectively, saved Europe , I reckon. It was the Mongols who decided to withdraw, not the European armies who made them go.

A Mongol army was about to invade western Europe when Genghis died and the invasion was halted while they chose a new leader, which took a while and then they decided to go in another direction.

Kublai Khan was impressive. He conquered China, a massive achievement in itself, and then extended its power south past Korea and across into India.

The Mongol armies were remarkable. They were all mounted, no foot soldiers, and were brilliant horsemen, able to control a horse at full gallop with their legs, leaving both arms free to fire arrows.
Foot soldiers had little defence. Columns of Mongols would ride in close, firing their arrows as each went past, mowing down the foot soldiers while staying out of arrow range themselves.
Their main disadvantage was that armies of a hundred thousand horses could eat out an area in days, so they had to keep moving to feed their horses. Some cities saved themselves by offering to feed the Mongol armies if they kept moving away.
