Agree. I thought they were just a wild mob who descended like a mob of locusts , but further reading shows they were very good administrators, and when Ogedei gave his Generals carte blanche to operate independently, they were brilliant tacticians. Only Europe's flooded plains and mountainous regions, where the Mongols couldn't use their horses effectively, saved Europe , I reckon. It was the Mongols who decided to withdraw, not the European armies who made them go.
