    Memorable April Fools day pranks

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

Wow, forgot all about it and it hasn't raised a blip at work either - guess everyone is thinking about other stuff, but glad someone remembered.

The Canberra Times used to have some very clever ones. They usually sounded so plausible.
One I remember was that there was a plan to raise quite a bit of money by temporarily draining Lake Burley Griffin. Since sediment had built up in the bottom of the lake, this was the equivalent of the fertile soil that is deposited on flood plains.
Apparently farmers would pay well for such fertile soil to top dress paddocks.
The way it was explained in the paper sounded more convincing that my summary.
One really clever aspect of each story was that the first letter of each word in the first paragraph spelled out a-p-r-i-l-f-o-o-l.

    Hi,
Years ago a local popular radio station announced the introduction of metric time, Chron time, 10 chron-hours/ day, 100 Chron minutes to the hour etc.
    Fairly raised some political dust!
    Cheers

It's an important day apparently ....SWMBO's birthday !

As a kid i remember a TV news program that showed Italians harvesting spagetti from the trees it grew on. Just googled it and it was broadcast in 1957 so I must have seen it when it was repeated

    Hi,
The main Eastern abutment for the new Tasman Bridge had been cast and was curing under damp hession for a few days. This was huge, a major part of the replacement for the old floating bridge that was well overdue for replacement.
On the morning commute, there it was, crisp clean lines, standing grand in the morning sun for all to see.
    BUT!
A large fissure was running across the pristine face.
Was it cleaved apart, destroyed, useless and damaged beyond redemption?
Ladders were needed to examine the catastrophic crack. Fire engines were summoned, police directed the masses stopping to rubberneck, engineers mounted the ladders to inspect the carnage.
Reporters waited for the findings, baited breath, pencils poised to record the verdict.
It was pronounced, with much relief, a prank!
The University Mountaineering Club denied all knowledge. As if they would do such public mischief on the first of April!
    Cheers

Late 80s, early 90s in Brissy, over a few years there was a large 'For Sale' sign placed on top of the Storey bridge and the XXXX brewery. There was also a large 'Closed Due To Illness' sign hung off the top of the P.A. hospital, all carried out by the same folk, so I'm led to believe.

I think the Story bridge wore the For Sale sign more than once.

Obviously bridges are male here as in France, then. Thanks for clearing that up, Ian.
