When I turned 18 - I had 3 cars on my list as my first car - a four door Alfetta 1800, a Mazda R100 or a Hillman Hunter Royal 660 (the Hustler was a bit down market for me ).

I started working at BHP Newcastle as was saving up but out of the blue my Mum rang me and said my Dad had bought me a car - with no consultation with me - it was a Morris 1300 auto - the biggest heap of crap and I sold it within a year. To rub salt into the would, a mate bought a Mazda R100 - what a great car - handled really bad but went like a scalded cat in a straight line.

    Not mine but similar

Good thread, It never occurred to me to collate the cars Ive owned,

My first car was a 1962 XL Falcon I bought for $300 (google photo)

Next, I traded the Falcon on a 120Y Coupe, against all advice bought for $4600 on HP, I have no idea why I bought this I learned my lesson and never again bought any car on finance (google photo)

I bought a '64 Beetle for $100 and cut the guards / removed sills for the Baja Bug look, this was a lot of fun & would go almost anywhere, (google photo)

Sold the Bug to my brother & bought myself a VC Valliant, terrific car (google photo) don't recall what happened to it .

about the same time I bought a new DT250 from Clipstone Yamaha, (google photo) cant remember why but I sold it a few years later to a wrecker for $600

Someone pranged into my 120Y and insurance paid for it (phew) , I bought my first Landy, a 64 2A (pictured) , it was all white, I painted it green with water based plastic paint , with a brush. It was $1500 in a Moorabbin car yard about 1983.

I then bought this '62 Compact Fairlane for $800, you can see I still had the Landy ! The other 3 cars are Dads.

Sold the Fairlane & bought a '48 KB5 Inter, no idea why really, drove it home to Doncaster from Cann River and cant remember a thing about it except someone squeezed a gold diamond engine into it , Fixed it up & sold it on (google photo)

Bought my first 109 , Early '80s can't remember exactly , It had a Hardtop and a P76 engine and Toyota axles, I put a RangeRover gearbox in it and drove it to The Gulf and back on an LROCV Burke&Wills trip.

Then bought my first Series 1 from the Trading Post , a 54" 86" , photo after I restored it. I think this was the most fun to drive Landy so far.

Bought an 80" wreck off a farm in Buxton, restored it and could not pass up the offer of $3000 from ULR , this was in the ULR Malvern showroom for a while , and years later I found out it was sold to Narau , so its most likely corroded away to nothing now .

Bought a TT250 and a CB900 from the Trading Post , I kept these for about 10 years until I had to give up bikes due to vision issues. Also had a rare RD350 for a
while, way too fast for me so got rid of it, worth a mint now.

Next truck was a Mark4 Acco from a Machinery dealer in Thomastown, It was a lot of fun but 4MPG was not, even took it on a few Landy Club trips, sold it on to a bloke in Montrose.

I bought another '64 SWB as a donor body for my Ninety project, I was inspired after seeing a Camel Trophy Ninety on display at a CCJC Event at Narbethong in '85 or '86. I got a RRC Chassis from Ritters and cut 10" from the centre and welded on the Series 2A outriggers. I think I made the worlds first 'Hybrid' as they are called nowadays.

Next was a MkIV Continental , I bought it as our wedding car for $7000 and later swapped for a block of Land which we sold 10 years ago for $120K , about the only car deal that I've made money on.

Went to the USA in '96 for a 3 month road trip and bought this Mk7 Continental for $1200, from a 'cheap Joes' car yard in Inglewood (where the riots were) drove 25,000 miles trouble free. Sold it for $300 in New York.

I bought this Ford Transit for $800 , had a Holden6 and traumatic, to transport my RC planes to the model flying club.

Then bought the NA Fairlane, bloody lovely car , cant even remember selling it but its not here so must have

2001 Another USA 3 month roadtrip, bought another Mk7 Continental, $900 from eBay, inspected it at a house in Pasadena, it had a dead flat battery , went to PepBoys , bought a $19.99 battery , came back and put it in the car, cranked it over and drove away. Another 25,000 Miles trouble free , Indicators stopped working on the last day , we gave the car away. Ugly cars but bloody reliable.

Bought the SB Combo in 2001, to replace the Transit, only Holden Ive ever had , had it for 10 years never had an ounce of trouble, would make a great EV conversion , plenty of Load capacity and space for batteries.

Saw this BJ40 on the side of the road in Eltham with the Engine in pieces in the back, Offered them $600 & it was mine, I bought another rusted out one for $400 with a good engine from Kinglake and drove it home as it was falling apart around me, made this beauty out of the two . It was slow but I loved driving it , had it about 5 years and sold it for $3500 just before the prices started skyrocketing. Kicking myself now.

The 40 series showed me how bloody reliable Toyotas were compared to LandRovers which needed constant fettling, I bought the 80series from eBay for $4500 and did two trips around Australia before it had a catastrophic failure near Broome. A wrecker paid $1000 for it.

Bought the 105 for $30K from Broome Toyota so we could tow the van home, After the 80 series what a disappointment. No more Toyotas for me.

2010 Got home and sold the 105 for $32k , then bought the Td5 for about the same money . Yep, LandRovers just as I remembered ,... back on the tools !!!

2013 Swapped the Defender for the Iveco, First 'New Car" ive ever bought . Worse than the Landrover in terms of issues. bloody awful, but wow the most capable 4x4 ive ever had , by a long shot.

Wanted a Lightweight ever since I saw one on a LandyClub trip in the 1980's , saw this advertised for sale as a non runner while we were away on a trip, looked close at the photos & saw it was in my own backyard, The bloke renting our house had it for sale, an omen so I bought it sight unseen, At least it didn't have to get delivered

Ive always liked the look of PT Cruisers and I wanted to buy a car to convert to Electric , This had a blown engine & I got it for $1500 from Mornington, towed it home & my Engineer advised me to convert something older so I didn't have to worry about the Crumple Zone ADR's, so I converted the Lightweight instead. I fixed the PT Cruiser engine, drove it for a few years & recently gave it to my daughter for her kids to Learn to drive a Manual, its getting lots of use . Great to drive , bags of power & tough as bricks. Never had a bad American car yet.

Latest acquisition is this '49 Dodge Ute, spent 6months restoring it , waiting on VASS & I can get rego. Not For Sale either. its a keeper.

Never realised I had so many cars, These are just the registered and going ones. I don't think I missed any but it was a good excersize for grey matter !!

I did my apprenticeship with a BMC dealer & all my working life as a mechanic I worked for BMC , Leyland , JRA.

101RRS, you are correct about the Morris1500 , they had head , timing chain , water pump problems but the biggest problem they had was gear box synchro's . When we did a gear box we crossed everything hoping it would work . The synchro rings would brake with in a week of doing the boxes & 1 out of 2 you had to do again before it even left the workshop. They went from a excellent little car in the M1100 to this horrible M1500.

My father had a 1500, which was excellent, except for inadequate ground clearance - he passed it onto a grand daughter, who knocked a hole in the sump - was still patched with silicone when she sold it years later.

I think you are thinking of the Morris 1500 - the 1300 was only a 4 speed auto where the same vehicle in a manual was the OHC 1500cc with manual O/D gearbox.

My main issues was that if it sniffed any rain or moisture in the air ignition would cease, no matter what I did to stop it.

    Don't know what I was thinking , don't know why I wrote 1300 .
The 1300 was an OHV motor were the 1500 was OHC . The 1300's once they got old & the auto played up people would buy an an 1100 manual bob for them & throw the auto away. The 1300's had on park mechanism in the box , we fitted solenoids valves in the brake lines to lock the brakes on when parked . Just had to flick the switch on the dash & depress the brake then turn the switch off . then to release the brake you depressed the brake & it would release '

I had a Morris 1500 Nomad (I'll get to it). The previous owner (colleague) had the gearbox synchros repaired under warranty. Not long after, he couldn't select gears again. It sat outside his p;lace for a couple of years and then I bought it off him for $200. I found the nuts on the cable shift hadn't been tightened properly. I fixed that and drove if from Penrith to Broadway every day for a year or so. It had a pinhole leak in one Hydrolastic suspension hose so I had to pump it up every so often using a brake or clutch master cylinder to transfer fluid from the container into the system. I quite like the Nomad. (I still have the genuine workshop manual in the garage - must sell it one day. )

There are a few vehicles I wish I had kept but I am now trying to buy die cast models of all the vehicles I have owned in the correct colours . Don't think I will achieve 100% as some just weren't made. I have around 15 so far so about half way. The good thing about models they don't take up much room & apart from a dust down every now & then don't need much work.

This is a Morris 1300 auto I built for the sailing club. Motor in the back and a second 1300 subframe at the front. Steering locked up on the back and a line locker type thing for the handbrake. Still going I think.
I bought two 1300's for the parts. Much the same as an 1100 but different in many respects. 1275 single carb motor. Interesting 4 speed auto.

First up, Datsun 1200 ute, got booked doing 145 on P Plates, the cop got me going over the hill, was off the clock on the way down
    Datsun 1200.jpg

Next was a 302 XB GS that ended up with a 351 running 12.5 to one compression and 302 heads.

    $_35.jpeg

Then a TF cortina ghia because I though it was time to be sensible (until I lowered it until it was about 3 inches off the ground) Mine had the criss cross 14"wheels though.

    cortina.jpg

About the same time I bought the XT ute I still have, it originally looked something like this one

    XT Ute.jpeg

A few work vehicles saved me getting new vehicles until I changed jobs and got an ED Fairmont Ghia in Cobalt which I cannot find an example of anywhere.

EB2.jpg And it had the flash Interior as well EB In terior.jpg, the interior picture is of a cobalt car

The ED got traded in on a Daihatsu Rocky which lunched its transfer case at Tiboburra where SWMBO was doing her prac teaching at the time

    1995_Daihatsu_Rocky_SE_2.8TD_(F78).jpg

Then started the run of Land Rovers

I forgot the current daily driver, bought as a vehicle to cart stuff to the farm as we were getting sick of taking the Disco out with a trailer on all the time. I still drive it to and from work in Canberra long after the Disco 3 failed to proceed. 295,000 Km so far. I had to do the water pump and pulleys this week but it has been the most econonmical vehicle to run I've ever owned. Dedicated gas as well

The hardest one to find on Google by far was the two door Falcon, it seems that very few survive with the original white and gold stripes colour scheme, I reckon this post has wasted about 3 hours by the way......
