I had a number of kids keen on navigation, so taught them the basics; read a refidex (street directory to the uneducated), compass and pacing.
For the practical assessment I chose an easily accessible but secluded, dry bush setting, that I was familiar with through SES training.
I took my daughter and her best mate, to get an idea of young kids paces, to the preparation and set up.
Amongst the sparse, thirsty looking, drought hardy, native vegetation, I spotted a stand of dark green, tall, healthy looking plants, neatly growing in a square of about 100 yards.
Being somewhat naive about certain cash crops, but highly suspicious that nature could produce such bounty in the prevailing barron, shaley wasteland, I casually asked the girls, without drawing too much attention, what they thought.
Their speculation aligned with mine, so with the responsibility of two young girl I hastily abandoned the recce and hightailed out of there.
On the way home we called into the local cop shop. The uniformed fellows at the front desk appeared interested and genuinely concerned, and reported it to the detectives upstairs.
One of the Coppers In Disguise came down and told us that it had been reported and they had checked it out, finding it to be stinking roger.
Not likely! But in the middle of the Fitzgerald Inquiry I felt discretion was the better part of valour and pursued the issue no further.
    Cynical? Not me.

Had never heard of that before today (must be a Queensland thing) & if I had in my naivety, I probably would have thought it was an unwashed male anatomy bit.

One could be excused looking at an image of that plant & to think it was pot.

Maybe the cops were secretly growing a crop [I know, that sounds impossible] & thought anyone happening past would fall for that crap. Cop at front counter. "Sarge I think some little kids have found the DCI's garden" wink wink.

Sarge in rear office. "Oh bugger I told him ro make it disappear. Don't tell me hasn't?

"Tell them it was stinking Cock or Dick, stiffy, oh bugger, Roger."

Des, it wasn't the recognisable attributes of the plant that aroused my suspicion. It was the tightly packed, straight and square, healthy and tended look amongst the dry, sparse and struggling vegetation.

Then I retract my unfair judgement of the DCI as it now becomes obvious it was laid out by the Police Barracks Sar' Major/Drill Instructor.

In those days Qld. coppers used to get their drug supplies for recycling straight from the evidence locker. Does anyone remember the $100,000+ of heroin that disappeared from the Cairns station?

I know where there is a shed around here that is being developed to grow it legally.
The number of hoops the company has had to jump through is unbelievable.

It has taken just over 12 months to get all the approvals, and paperwork sorted.
Just the security system for the premises is mind blowing.

The whole operation is amazing, although it hasn't actually started yet.

Should be worth it,the oil is liquid gold, depending on the purity.

Sure do. Another ploy was to bust a pusher with X amount of contraband but book them for X/2, reselling the balance.

It's ridiculous the levels of security these farms are compelled to adopt. The strain of their product contains none of the do-lally, mind altering substance craved by the druggies.

North-west Tasmania has some interesting, legal and very green drug farms, with warning signs to tell drivers to move along.
