Yes, we do away completely with the silly steel elbow, and route it gently around the bottom to avoid rubbing on things, sometimes need to wrap it and cable tie too. It's a far better solution.

The Pirtek catalogue suggests MPH-10 product code hose. It has a min bend radius of 110mm, and is perfect for low pressure and suction. Do you have a Pirtek outlet reasonably close?

Nearest would be South Adelaide or Regency Park.

Get longer, you will need to radius it wider and change the route it follows to clear stuff. 1m is plenty.
