Unless they are up to no good (really?) The request from all the affected countries is most reasonable to find & eliminate the cause, but another "Toy" the may play with, may indeed backfire on them & wipe every one out so where is the gain for China? I think they are the best self defense tool we have PLUS. You have to be nuts to put a surface ship anywhere a submarine could possibly be. We are a very very big island then again the mostly shallow waters to our north are not perfect for subs.
My bet is by the time the future subs arrive we may be ripping the noisy diesel out for a quiet nifty fuel cell or refitting them quickly at a huge cost[bighmmm]
Seriously now, I read recently that the French torpedoes are the best in the World.
Whether we buy them or Yank stuff I do not know.
Whether they will still be the best by the time we get the subs who knows.
