That reminds me of what happened to my racing bike many moons ago when I was a keen young racer. Left it locked to a tree while I went into the swimming pool and while I was changing back into my clothes later heard them calling out for the owner of a Raleigh bike to come to the office. Not my bike so I took no notice.... but when I walked past the office sure enough there was my bike sans front wheel leaning against the wall!
The dickhead in the office couldn't work out what name was on the frame so assumed it was Raleigh when it was actually an Italian Fiorellie. The thieving scum had nicked the front wheel by simply opening the Campagnolo quick release lever and taking it out...………….
