    Video Quality

I hope no-one here is guilty of annoying me with their videos.

Why do people who post clips of a recovery think I need to see five minutes of a group of people falling about laughing because their mate got bogged, followed by a few seconds of the bull bar being ripped off by a snatch strap, followed by five more minutes of all his mates falling about laughing because his bull bar got ripped off?

Why do people who post clips of going down Gunshot think I am interested in the five minutes it took the driver to work up the courage for the five second trip down into the creek?

Why do people who post clips think I want to be made sea sick trying to watch images wobbling all over the screen because they make no attempt to hold the camera still?

Don't these people know that the movies are supposed to involve movement of objects or people in the frame, not erratic, pointless movement of the camera?

Do they have any idea how much more watchable a clip is if they hold the camera still?

Do they not realise that there is software available to allow them to edit out the irrelevant boring bits?

Because people think in moments I guess. They know that gunshot is worth filing, or should be, and do not shoot enough b-roll to fill in an edited video. In other words, if you have 10 minutes of gunshot and you edit it, you are left with 10 seconds of video and that's a bit disappointing. You have to be an editor before you can be a video maker but most people don't want to put in that kind of effort

An average to good stills photog 'sees' the finished image in their mind's eye, - before they reach for the camera....

Today's "videographers'' don't have the same attention span...

    That's why

A friend who makes his living in moving pictures has said more than once that the consumer kit out there today is very good and not far off professional what this does not include is the skills and knowledge on how to use it to produce a useable product. It is that small difference that keeps him in a job.

Mostly the videos you are talking about have the participants as the target audience not anyone else. Editing takes time and effort so is dispensed with.
