You need to start with a liveable income, there is a level that if you dip below it - you are fighting a vicious cycle and money is directly correlated with happiness.

But yes assuming the basics are covered (ie you can pay your bills and you and family live healthily with a little well managed expendable cash) then more money doesn't necessarily equal more happiness.

Personally I can't imagine a $200M yacht or a $100M house in Mexico would bring me happiness. Having said that, a 997 GT3 I would get a huge kick out of.

    -Edit-
As for meditation vs motorcycles - having done both, I agree with both. Both are about being present in the moment, on the bike it's about finding that sense of flow. Nothing that forces that like flying on a litre bike! Though Casey Stoner famously said that he often thinks about things like picking milk up from the shops while going sideways at 200+ on a MotoGP bike... but I'll take him as an exception...

Meditation helps in every day life. Trains you to reset your mind in situations when you're not meditating - less possible to do that with a bike or shed time when you're not on the bike or in the shed. But if you find enough Zen in motorcycle maintenance and you're managing the stress of life well enough then keep doing what you're doing - if it ain't broke don't fix it!

There-in lies the trick….what you perceive as a liveable income. I am sure that JP’s perception of a liveable income is quite a few orders of magnitude greater than mine. Heck, I would be happy just to be able to afford his insurance bill on the mega yacht…..just the once.

Actually, I find that when I really want what I already have I am really happy.

Happiness for me is an icy cold beer or three after a hard days fishing sitting around the campfire in the middle of nowhere with the missus or a bunch of good mates

My father's accountant's idea of happiness was to acquire enough money to give up work and indulge in "****, molls, and racehorses".
