FIRST DAY OUT ON THE NEW TRANSPORT

    my new transport.
    20200629_125240.jpg

I ventured out into the neighbourhood yesterday, firstly in company with my O.T. We gave up on Tecoma Railway station after getting there, the road cross overs were too steep and the station ramp rough and very steep. Not the safest getting there.
So later that arvo I ventured solo to check out Belgrave Railway station. It was an eye opener, battling over grown sword grass over the footpath at one location. I rang to complain to the council.
Then other properties had over grown shrubbery over foot path, reducing access. I found the camber on the paths all over the place due to the hilly nature.

I got to Belgrave and had to cross Reynolds lane the picture doesn't do justice on how steep and angle of cross over is and its on the intersection of Burwood highway. Crossing it needs a very slow speed which leaves you on the road a bit longer.

After that I went thru the Belgrave shopping Strip , crossed the traffic light and travelled along Black Smiths way to the Station.
Blackmans way is very steep, and when the foot path meets the road the approach/departure angle is very high. The Pic doesn't really 'show how bad it is. But I came to grief there.
Even with the slowest speed setting and the leg rests raised and the tilt angle on the chair adjusted, the angle is too great on the curb. The chair lunged forward., the foot rested dug into the road stranding me.
After a bit of mucking around I managed to free myself. Trying to drive back up the foot path was fruit less. Even with full Power the chair could not cope with the gradient. A passer-by asked if I needed help.
I reversed and had to take the road up as it was less steep than the footpath and got up that ok.

I got home ok. I spoke to the OT about this and she is going to speak to the Wheel chair people to see about an alternative chair.

Ii investigated the local bus routes re wheel chair friendly buses, Seems some only run on week ends. So its an all new life style change and challenge.

I don't envy you one bit Mario.
Sounds like you need low range on your new transport.

I think we should do an AULRO go-fund-me, and chip in for one of these. Looks like you get all the mobility you need in one neat package.

Rocket Mobility targets disabled outdoors lovers with all-terrain wheelchairs
Life is just a series of obstacles preventing you from taking a nap.

One of these and forget the trains perhaps. Might need a power cord for a top up

During my three months in a wheelchair It surprised me even getting across a pedestrian crossing took a lot of planing. Slopes where a PITA +. Cars parked on footpaths still **** me to bits for the lack of consideration
