I got some Google Nest cameras , and a google nest doorbell, they are expensive and use a lot of bandwidth , and need a power source, if you don't have big brother concerns they are amazing .
Can stream to my TV, phone or computer. Camera lets me know if it sees a delivery at the front door , etc . hears someone talk or a dog bark , clever technology.

I did get a Cocoon set from Aldi. It works, kinda. The app is hopeless, but the cam/HDD seems fine. Probably the same as the units available at Jaycar. I can see the possums in my roof, so it works for me..... But cheap is , well, cheap.

Having been broken into 3 times in 5 years we have 6 cameras installed. Front, back, two sides, garage and a portable "cube". All HIKVision POE HD dome cameras. 5 of the 6 are wired CAT6 to a switch. The 6th is wi-fi. I use a Synology NAS drive to record. Use the HIKvision app for remote access. 2 of the cameras (front the rear of the house) email pics to my work email when we are out.
Yes I know the Chinese Govt are no doubt watching my dogs every move but that's their call.

After having success with the Ring Doorbell for parcel deliveries I expanded that ecosystem to cover the entire house/yard.
Integrated with Alexa we had the audible alert early
Morning that enabled me to catch the little ferals - rather than finding out in retrospect.
Immediate alerts are far more useful.

If you have an old phone you can download an app called ALFRED camera. you download it on to the old phone and set it up with power and access to wifi and download the app to your good phone. One is the slave and one is the master. you can set up numerous cameras and it is free. You can pay and upgrade to things like being able to zoom in or higher quality. Any movement or change in environment will send an alert to your phone stored for a week with normally two 5 second videos. You can instruct the slave phone to switch to night mode, reverse the camera, turn on the flash (like a light) send an audible siren as well as push to talk. Certainly an interesting rabbit hole to go down. Alfred Camera | Simple Home Security at Your Fingertips
If I was to install something I would look at 4K cameras.
Cheers
