RIP Able Seaman Hugh Edward Markcrow, and Seaman Damien Humphries. 1987

HMAS Otama (SS 62/SSG 62) was an Oberon-class submarine of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). ... On Monday 3 August 1987 , two submariners were lost when Otama submerged while they were still working in the fin.
The Otama crew had been inside the fin where they died when the sub dived stowing the hawsers. It was a Very Rough Sea

EDIT some Navy mate helped. adding a sad yarn at the bottom. Do not read if you get upset by mistakes and coverups.

RIP Able Seaman Hugh Edward Markcrow, and Seaman Damien Humphries.
HMAS Otama is no rusting away in Western Port. She is a bit of a ghost ship for me. I go past her and think of these boys each time. Glad dry July is over today. My shout

Bear and Scarecrow. they were the same badge as me just did it much deeper Ian. Sorry for this one. A nutty Navy mate brought it up. My memory happily normal lets go of my little shop of horrors. Otama did many amazing things which none of us will ever hear about. I'll try and not share over the next few

The sea state was seriously off the page that night. My heart breaks also for the crew and command who will feel it so much more than others do. We found out as we went out the heads. I was tied up honestly. The bravery and determination of the crew to find then could never be overstated. In a wetsuit and recovery line there was not possible way I could have walked on the deck of my Destroyer to the front. They got out of a tiny boat and found them, Otama had dived during the chaos.

I pull the **** on Airforce and Army at times. People die serving Australia in both peace times and war. This is the only reason I march on ANZAC day and am not humiliated by the Vietnam, WW2 and WW1 boys and girls.

Excuse me if I do not hold the command responsible in this one. I know they cannot forget.

A problem shared is a problem halved, James.

    And then some.

Mistakes happen. They shouldn't, but they do. It's the ability to learn from them that makes us human, and documenting them for the future to continue to learn from them that makes us wise.

Be careful James, when one least expects it, the demons try to escape. It is quite OK to get help to put them back in their place.

It was not a fun night at the pub after we got back to Garden Island. I saw a lot of fights that night. Not me.

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
