My very cool postie Chris has left after 10 years of the odd chat. they moved a heap of our delivery ladies and gents to Parcel deliveries he told me on his last day the last week.

I agree the service is a dying one but loved our guy. Never got to see his band. Wished I did. He held my mail if I was away and brought it en masse when I came home. He felt some some might have notices my large post box was a bit full. A bottle of bourbon was in the box every year for him. I got great service plus.

The cost and service delivery times for my work is PITA plus but our service here was with a smile and cheerful. Chris will be missed on his little bike. Hope he drops parcels in for me

I bought a stud deburring tool from Amazon Au the other day.

Delivery was from USA . It came in about 10days with AFAIR $7.60 delivery.

It was a bit cheaper from Taiwan but I thought that it would probably take months.

It doesn't make Auspost look very competitive.

Here in the U.K. they opened post delivery up so was no longer a monopoly. Competition was supposed to bring down price and improve services

A couple of big names launched however they only went after the large customer who were mostly the government offering a cheaper service taking out post office. Average user saw no difference as not enough volume for them to be bothered with

They then decided that the last 5 miles of the delivery was costing them too much so the government made the post office do their delivery for them at a price the competition decided was fair. Fair to whom did I here you ask?

Even with this subsidy they were not able to make a profit and ended up withdrawing the service leaving the post office to continue

And we all know how that works. Just look at what happened to power prices in Au after privatization.

As for Australia post, my son in Melb, which is about 190 km from my place, posted me a letter last month.

It took 12 days to arrive. And I know this is off topic but don't get me started on parcel delivery companies.

I get a card in the letter box saying that no one was home and parcel is at post office.

Has happened on numerous occasions, each time SWMBO or myself was home all day.
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

We have the local parcel delivery woman organised to leave parcels on the front verandah, which isn't visible from the road. She's great.

I run my business from a home base for close to 20 years, had this one delivery guy and the first time I layed eyes on him I thought he was going to be the most useless person we ever had, Musta weighed in at 200kg, unfitess person I had met, just nothing right a bout him. Well bugger me if he didnt turn out to be the most polite best delivery guy I ever had, went well and truely beyond his role. Had him for about 5 years.
    cheers

Our deliverer is a young woman in her mid-20s who does a great job, seems to work 7 days a week (seriously, we have had a delivery on a Sunday) and says they have been flat out for months. Excellent!

On Friday night I was away from home and got a SMS from Aust Post had been delivered to my address on that Friday night (at 1836) - hmm interesting as it is a valuable item and no one was home to sign for it.

Ok later that night I rang my housemate and asked if the parcel was there - he said yes but it had been delievered on Wednesday and just left on the doorstep - two days before the delivery advice. I got back home last night and the parcel clearly indicates signature required. If my housemate had not got it, it would have been left out since Wednesday to Sunday out in the rain and high wind that the SE has experienced over the past few days - the item was a full of electronics so most likely would have issues with water ingress.

I only ordered the item when I did knowing I would be away as the seller indicated delivery this week when I would be home.

Have had that with STAR-TRAK Won't even come down our driveway because there are trees on the property (not on the road ) therefore too Hard, they tell HO. For parcels not delivered by them we have to go to the next township & pick them up.
