    Australia Post

    Hey,
One of the companies I regularly complain about being stuck in the 80's is Aust Post.
It's a 24 hour world wide economy these days but they stick to the 9-5 model. Costs to post a letter goes up but takes 3 times longer and I could go on and on.
But, today I got a Saturday delivery. Common at Christmas but NEVER any other time.

During this pandemic, the business that will survive are those that adapt.

Aus Post is a joke. 4 weeks ago I posted a Registered Mail envelope from my Post Office in N/E Vic to a Post Office in the northern suburbs of Melbourne. It took 14 days to arrive.

The postie we had delivering to our house at Xmas seemed to fancy himself as a motorcross rider and chewed up the lawn with his tyres. The bloke yesterday didn't put a couple of letters all the way in the post box, so they got wet in the rain!

Our postie was like that wheelie marks up the hill to out mail box from the box next door, now he has got the electric bike can't do that. He occasionally puts the other 5 houses up from out place in our box for me to deliver.

    Our postie is fantastic.
If he sees me in the garage he will bring the mail up and hand deliver.

If he has a small package he will leave it at the kitchen door out of the rain.

Delivered a small package to my wife in the laundry a couple of days ago.

I get so little snail mail these days that the second day delivery doesn't really matter.

And Mario's deliveries still seem to come in one day or two.

Our local Startrack courier is just as good . Nice bloke and drives an LGV van which he is very happy with.
But then I do live in the country, although Queensland seems to think we are greater Sydney.

No problem with the posties, our local bloke is awesome. Anything that won't fit in the box he brings up to the house.
My problem with Aus Post is that they cleverly separated the letter business from the parcel business a couple of years ago, so while the parcel business is booming, it doesn't support the letter business, so letter postal charges go up, and letter deliveries go to 2 or 3 a week.

I see postal delivery centre staff in Melb are being reduced because of C-19, so sorting may take longer. Fewer planes also means slower overseas deliveries and more mail going by road than air.

When I chatted the Postmaster about the 14 day letter delivery he replied that was good. He said he would expect a 3+ weeks delivery period.
