You guys in the big hats with **** on your boots may be interested in this bit of rural news. After 121 years Clark and Tait have now sold all their Central Queensland properties. All prime properties held by the private family company for many years.
Iconic Clark and Tait properties on the market | Farm Online | Australia
At one time C&T were the largest owners of freehold land in Queensland.
Well, $200 million should keep the families in single malt and Mercedes-Benz for a while.

In the late '90s I did a lot of work out West and in the Gulf country, for the Stanbroke Co.
The stations I worked on included 'Islay Plains', 'Beresford' and 'Craven', in the Alpha-Clermont area.
In the Collinsville area, 'Havilah' and another property whose name escapes me.
In the Gulf were 'Abingdon Downs', 'Strathmore', 'Miranda Downs', Donors Hill', 'McCallister', 'Augustus Downs', 'Kamilaroi' and 'Rocklands'.
Near the NT-Qld border were 'Ardmore', 'Headingly' and 'Lake Nash', which was in the Territory.
There were also a few more stations that I can't recall the names of and also several feedlots.
Looking at the current Stanbroke web site they have certainly downsized over the years since my time.........................and before certain forum members start, 'No', it had nothing to do with my involvement!!!![]()

Do you know how Donors Hill got its name? It always seemed odd to me that it is pronounced Donna's Hill.
I was heading south, late one night, near the jump-up, towing three empy petrol tankers. Suddenly it became daylight. A meteorite passed about twenty feet above me! It was reported from Doomage to Dajara.

Sheesh! I hope you weren’t listening to ol Slim and ‘ Lights on the Hill’ Ian🤭
Google these. All family owned grazing businesses in Queensland. Stanbroke, Acton Land and Cattle, MDH (McDonald Holdings), Kidman Cattle Co. AACo is a public company and North Australian Pastoral was a family business for over 100 years and now is 3/4 owned by the Qld. Treasury through its investment arm Qld. Investment Corporation. NAP is the buyer of C&T's Mantuan Downs for $92.6 million. Brighton Downs is owned by a local family. A nice little hobby farm of 420,000 hectares. The Brittons also own Mt. Landsborough at Corfield, Goodwood, Boulia, and blocks adjoining Brighton Downs, Franklin, Mt. Gigeon, Lucknow. Most of the really big old properties have had large areas sliced off by government action in the name of "closer settlement". Elderslie, Winton, at its peak was 2500 square miles and is now less than 1000. Lerida, Rangelands, Vindex, and others have been severely reduced. A couple have become national parks including Wellshot, Ilfracombe, which once sheared 400,000 sheep, likewise Diamantina Lakes. Milo, Adavale, which once sheared 700,000 and no longer exists. Google large cattle and sheep stations. There are still quite a few big ones scattered around the nation but many are now owned by overseas corporations not local families.

What an interesting thread!
A mate of mine owns a former C&T property - sold back in the 70's.
I am also ex-Stanbroke Pastoral Co from the 70's, and worked on: 'Consuelo', 'Waverley', 'Havilah, 'Peakvale', 'Beresford', 'Craven', 'Frankfield', 'Fort Constantine', Donors Hill', 'Augustus Downs','Rocklands', 'Ardmore', 'Davenport Downs', 'Palpararra' and 'Tanbar' at that time - and later on: 'Strathmore', 'Kamilaroi', 'Lake Nash' and 'Helen Springs'.
If you want an idea of the scale of some of these early pastoral holdings, on many of them you could drive for 100 miles (160 km) and not get off the property!
