Man's wedding ring rips off finger in freak accident

Anyone doing even simple hands on work needs to be aware of this:

WARNING - GRAPHIC IMAGES: A man has shared gruesome photos to warn others after he lost his finger when his wedding ring got caught on his ute.

Man loses finger after wedding ring gets caught on ute

Many places that I have worked have a complete ban on wearing jewellery in the workplace. Most people are completely unaware of the risks.

Unfortunately degloving accidents due to wedding rings are not "Freak" or even "Unusual" and they happen all too often and that is why jewelry including wedding rings are banned from Many worksites, Many sites even ban metal bands on wrist watches for the same reasons.

Yep, rings, watches and chains around the neck are things you don't wear when working with rotating or moving machinery and electricity.

Something drummed into me at 18 when I started work, along with the gruesome stories to make the point.

Have never worn rings since going into engineering. Even though I'm now in sales I still don't wear rings (much to my wife's displeasure).

Knew a guy in the UK who had a large scar circling his wrist. Working on a car, spanner left on battery, steel watch band....you can guess the rest.

I had my wedding ring short between a spanner & a battery terminal once gave me a nice burn around my finger & stopped me wearing the ring for a while.

Likewise. No burn but a small dot of gold on the battery terminal and a small 'hole' in the ring still...

I told my fiancée that I’d never wear a wedding ring because they were a hazard at work. We didn’t buy one and I’ve never worn a ring.

Quite a few years ago now a man about three properties away, during harvest, climbed up to check how much grain was in a mesh field bin. He jumped down, leaving his wedding ring and ring finger at the top of the bin.

When I heard about this, I took mine off, and have not worn it since!

Yep, happened to a friend of mine when we were teenagers. Most of my watches have rubber watch bands.
