The attitude of some people to disabled.

I'm really suffering in my mental state, and its not the lock down every one is whinging about, it's the physical challenges, the wheel chair has restored some independence for me to at least move around on my own without having to rely on someone else and then to have some one come along take the joy out of it. At least I can move on .


re parking spots. I had a guy park next to me at supercheap last year and as I got out of the passenger seat they guy looked at my sticker and commented "I need to get one of those for myself

I cut my disabled parking sticker up just a few weeks ago. Several people suggested they could have used it to me! I might qualify but happily want to move as far as possible now like any one who has a real mobility issue I may blame PTSD for the ******* parking in disabled parking bays who should not be there.[biggrin][biggrin][biggrin][biggrin]

I do appreciate some with issues like MS have good and bad days so no firing from the hip from me I promise.

I probably posted this here before some years ago but I will do so again as it seems appropriate.
As you probably know by now our second daughter has special needs. When she was younger she and my wife were in a shopping centre. They were descending a staircase and as my daughter found the steps a little difficult they proceeded slowly. There was a group of teenagers behind so my wife stopped at the side to let the group of teenagers pass. As they were going by they laughed and poked fun at my daughter and her progress down the stairs. My wife explained the situation regarding my daughter and said maybe when they grow older and have children maybe one of them could have a child with special needs. Anyway they passed on and my wife and daughter resumed their leisurely descent.
Sometime later one of the teenagers came to my wife and daughter and apologised.

It took me two years and two appeals to get my Disability Parking Permit so I value it. I get annoyed when I see iceholes without one parking in the disabled bays.

Had a shot at a middle aged mum a while ago about parking in a 'Disabled' zone. I mentioned that she was not setting a very good example for for her two young, teenage kiddies, who were still in the vehicle. I was told, in no uncertain terms to 'Mind my own business'!

I have to say that, when I was out and about with work, a lot of my time was spent on footpaths or with equipment on footpaths and didn't I meet some 'Entitled' disabled and elderly, over the years. Not too many wheelchair people (although one bloke was downright obnoxious) but old farts on their mobility scooters. Pure and utter arrogance on their part. One old codger went out of his way to kick over some of our gear as he went past it, causing about $5000 damage.

We always took a fair bit of care making sure that the use of the footpath was not compromised, too.

I think that one day fate will catch up with arseholes who misuse/forge disabled stickers .

In the same way that I qualify to park in the "Seniors Parking" near the lift, I wouldn't dream of using one of those spots because I am sure I am more agile than a lot of seniors who are more than a decade younger than I am.

While some cars might be display a disabled sticker, he is convinced that some of the people who use them could easily manage with a normal, narrower parking spot a few metres further from the shops. he needs the extra width just to get out of the car.

Maybe after forty one years in a wheelchair he has become a bit intolerant of people he thinks are abusing the system.

PhilipA if the law catches up with them in Qld they will be twice as sorry, as the fine has doubled to $533.

vnx205 from my reading of this it looks like people assisting permit holder can use the disabled spot.

You can actually report misuse of a disabled spot, even in a shopping centre as they might have an agreement with the council to issue fines.

"Local government parking inspectors enforce the local law on public roads and parking spaces administered by local government.Owners of private car parks (such as hospitals, shopping centres and clubs) may also enter into an agreement with local governments, to allow parking inspectors to issue parking infringement notices."

I admire your courage for speaking up and letting people know how you are travelling at present. I hope you are OK and have the support you need.

I am thinking we need to help you give that wheelchair a remap - should be able to wind it up to 20kph to keep up with the electric scooters. Then add a pair of Discovery twin horns and you can go back and round up that bitch and show her what minimum 5kph looks like as you fly past blasting the horns. [emoji48]
