I've had Land Rovers for the last 57 years and never really had a bad one. Only once returned home on a tilt tray due to having two seals on fuel filter (my fault) and, after 10,000kms, started leaking and left a trail of diesel around the northern suburbs of Sydney. Reported by someone and resulted in knock on door of friend's place, where I was in the middle of dinner, by friendly fireman who had followed the diesel trail and who insisted that I have it towed.

I've had a few so its hard to pick the worst.

The broken clutch ridden star fire 4 Corana? Maybe the perpetually misfiring Telstar? I'll go with my first car, an LC Torana 1600. Had to replace the engine 4 weeks after buying it; lifting the gear stick for reverse often result in it coming free of the box; it leaked like a sieve so after an accident with some KFC gravy the car would stink on of mouldy chicken gravy whenever it rained.

Difficult to pick between two, both company cars. First was the EK Holden wagon - in 1967?, my boss brought a client up from Brisbane to Roma and they borrowed it to look at an area NE of town where we were going to be doing a job. Hit a bad bump, and the engine fell out. Couple of years later I drove it down from Rocky to the Brisbane yard, thought I was lucky to make it, the noises the engine was making, told the mechanic it needed looking at before going anywhere. A few days later one of his mates hopped in it to drive up to the shop for lunch. Made one block, and threw a rod.

Second one was in Melbourne, new Ford Laser 2. It started off well - I had gone on a business trip to London, and my wife was meeting me at Tullamarine. It broke down on the way to the airport, in pouring rain, with 600km on the clock. No mobile phones in those days. Then the wipers failed. Then the tyres, one after another, developed blisters and had to be replaced. Then the wipers failed. Then the under bonnet insulation caught fire. Then the wipers failed. (They finally fixed them at 20,000km) We called it "Murphy" - if anything can go wrong, it will!

I was sold a 1991 VW Passat, one of an initial batch of 14 brought in to Australia. Then VW pulled the plug on bringing any more in to the country for several years.
Was a spacious wagon for a growing family.
Went ok for a bit, then issues with the engine electronics, gearbox, engine mounts.
Dealerships were uninterested and next to useless.
Struggled with regret for 5 years before trading it in for next to nothing. I suspect (hope) it went straight to the wreckers.

Without doubt, would have to be the 4x4 Jeep J20 ex gov flat tray.
258cu in breathless oil and fuel consuming engine, zero suspension articulation despite the flexible chassis, and no power steer.
Apart from the tough as nails drivetrain, it was the first, and last American product I have ever owned...
The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈

Haven't really had a bad one.

    Had Holdens,HQ ute,HZ wagon,VN wagon,VS HSV sedan,Disco 2,'99,'01,'04,D4.

And numerous work vans,XD,E,F,Mitsy express,Hi Ace.

Probably the worse was the '99 D2,had heaps of issues.Same as the sons Puma.

The D4 would be the most maintenance hungry of all of them by a country mile.

The most reliable and cheapest to run, by a long, long way would have to be the Hi Aces. And we have a few of them.
    They run all day,every day,loaded,just keep on going.Batteries,tyres,serviced on time,thats it,nothing else.Never had a repair,or breakdown,in hundreds of thousands of k's.

Now if you said Morris 1500 I would agree . The 1300's never had many problems except body water leaks but the 1500's had the water leaks & too many mechanical problems to list.

Right on Paul, a great reliable vehicle. Only had two during my working life 1 x SWB & 1 x LWB Note the progression as one became more affluent? The stuff I could cram into the LWB was phenomenal.

The only problem I had was hard starting in the hot weather due to Fuel Vaporisation because the engine/carby stood high beneath the centre seat cowling where, when stationary the heat would gather. This must have been a common problem or it was for me, both types had this heating under the seat problem.

Other than that it was a trustworthy & reliable vehicle. Took me to Mildura once for an installation.

I bought an SU Electric Fuel Pump to fit so it would pump up when the ignition was switched on but somehow I never seemed to get around to it.

The pump now resides bolted to the S2A chassis as a standby which is great if it has stood for yonks.

The painter was here one day & I jokingly asked if he wanted to buy the LWB, & he snapped it up. I got $1000 for it as that was the max I found I could get anywhere.

Probably still going strong & may have even outlived the Painter.
