Advice needed - they want to write off my Defender

Definitely hand the whole mess over to a solicitor.
You have both vehicle and property damage. The solicitor should get right into this. You are getting the run around. Time to get serious. They will probably come to the party quick smart once the solicitor's letters start arriving.

Paint damage should not prevent the registration of a vehicle.

I am shocked insurance company is trying to write your car off over a respray [emoji33] even with the scotchy pads scratching it up, it needs sanding/prep and hitting with new paint, definitely not $26k worth of repairs [emoji33][emoji33]
