It's not just the lowballers. I had a lounge suite in Gumtree's freebies section with the usual "if the ad's still here so's the lounge suite" when old mate from Cessnock (about an hour away) gives me a call but as he has no car he offers me "petrol money" if I can deliver it to which I politely declined. He then opened up on me with something like "If you don't want to get rid of the ****** thing then don't ****** advertise it" then he hung up on me. [bighmmm][bighmmm][bighmmm]

When I advertise a car I clearly state that I want to see and copy the driving licence of anyone wanting to test drive it. Oh dear. Plenty of turkeys tell me I'm not authorised to see their licence so I immediately tell them that in that case they aren't driving it.
Some abuse but one bloke was a classic.... "I'm a policeman" he said. "I don't care" was my response "I've seen the way many cops drive and I'm not impressed". (I live near the WA Police Academy and believe me some of the things they do ain't funny) Anyway, turned out the bastard was a really shonky bastard and although he gave me a deposit someone told me he was actually doing it to a few others to reserve the vehicles until he made his mind up and because he was a cop got away with it.
I did give him his deposit back but less what it would cost to re-advertise it.
Sometimes I think just trading it in and getting less is better than putting up with the idiots and their horrendous driving.

PS. Just remembered, when I was selling a Prado 10 or so years ago a seller said she'd send her representative along to test it but he would not under any circumstance show his licence. This turkey kept coming up and peering around our van down the driveway even laying down to see underneath from about 15 meters away! I rang her up and laughed when I told her and she told me to Eff Off. Wonder why. :)

I advertised the rearmost (3rd row) seats of the Puma 110 I'd bought as they were of no use to me for a 100 bucks. Someone on this forum responded telling me to ship them to him in Victoria at my expence and "he would evaluate them" before payment.
My response was "Yeah Mate". Words nearly failed me. :)
These seats had hardly ever been used by the previous owner and never by us as was explained in my advert. Plus they were a grand plus extra apparently when the vehicle was new. Beats me what planet some of these tossers live on.

Reading the replies reminded me of a couple of " different" vehicle Sales.
My whole 50 years of working have been in sales, so you get good at sensing a genuine buyer.
One I picked as a "tyre kicker" but let him drive anyway, took the car - a 2 door Rangie -up to 100 in an 80 zone, straight past a motorcycle cop with a hand radar. When pulled over his excuse was he had to see how the car handled at 100. Then cracked the sads on me for not saying anything - geez it was a suburban road... Never saw him again.
The other one was a weird sale, it was a Vietnamese guy ( this was mid 80's) who spoke no English to look over my wifes Honda Accord. It was advertised for $4800 - a price which I would have dropped. He was mid 40's and had a young bloke as an interpreter. He walked around the car twice, said nice car, nice car, asked to look in the boot, said good & handed over $4800. I was flabbergasted. I said what about the engine? do you want to have a test drive? look inside? he just waved the cash at me. So we did the paperwork, he lived in the Hoddle Street housing commission high rise, & he left in it.. That night I hardly slept expecting to be home invaded !!!

I worked in an office for many years with a guy who's weekend activity was to get dressed up, go out with his twin brother & test drive cars. I got bloody sick & tired of him coming in Mondays & saying " have you driven the latest Porsche? - or Rolls or Merc or whatever, that I blew my top at him for being a bloody parasite & even thinking any of us could afford one anyway . Before that I genuinely asked if he ever got recognized and he said only once, due to the huge number of car yards & staff turnover. So now you know that identical twins can test drive over 100 cars per annum in Melbourne ad infinitum...
