A bit shaken after my accident this morning.

I drove my wheel chair to my doctors appointment in Upwey, but today a bus was parked on the side of the road where I need to travel along due to the footpath ending.

I decided to wait hoping the us might move on, but it was clear he was having his break.
There is no way to pass this bus, no room on the left side, so watching out for traffic i had to drive the chair onto the road and pass him on the drivers side and hope the bus didn't decide to take off on me. As I got to the drivers door I could see he was on his break.
I passed the bus and then tried to drive up the steep ramp o where the footpath once again, the path is too narrow and I have complained to the council before and it is under works investigation. but Covid19 Etc.

As I slowly ascended the ramp and made my turn with the chair I lost traction on the ivy and bark covering the path and then chair then tipped over on my right side.
(The pics truly dont show how steep that ramp is and the usable width of the path.)

The seat belt saved me from being thrown from the chair.
I was lying on my right side strapped to the chair and unable to move.
then all of a sudden I had cars pulling over all over the place and good Samaritans, 2 were nurses.
they asked if I was hurt and needed and ambulance and whether I had activated my SOS pendant.

I just wanted to get off the ground and back on my chair. it took 3 people to upright the chair
they struggled to get me up due to my dead weight, but eventually got me onto my knees and I was able to drag myself onto the chair with some help.
I was pretty shaken up and only later noticed I was bleeding from my elbow, I was on Adrenalin and just wanted to continue on my way. I thanked every one with a hand shake and told them how I appreciated their kindness and stopping to help me.

I made my Doctors appointment and got patched up my his nurse, the bruising and pain started to kick in and my independence once again was challenged.
I made the journey back home unscathed and rang the shire about what happened and sent some photos. they will get the maintenance dept to act on the leaf /vegetation on the path and report the path to the engineering dept., they asked my location and the routes I use..

Ouch plus mate Glad you survived another big adventure

Shopping yesterday I was waiting to turn at the lights in my Disco. A 3 lane either way road ( Doncaster) has a shopping centre on one side and Donvale Rehab on the other. 12 months ago it was terrifying getting across it in my wheelchair the first few times. Right leg and left arm only working then.
99% of the turning traffic were wonderful and patient. That very special type of **** is a minority. Slopes and obstructions really really make wheelchairs tough plus.

Well done Mario and thankyou for sharing with us yet again.

Thank you too for reminding us of the kindness of strangers which often seems to "just happen" - and a big thankyou to them as well, from all of us.

That is a terrible experience you had but at least no permanent damage inflicted which is a plus. From what I can see of councils they seem to be more reactive than proactive.

Sounds as if your council is more responsive than mine!

well it seems I didn't get away unscathed. The 200kg wheelchair and my 120kg body = 320kg, tipping and falling on to solid concrete must have done something as I woke about midnight with a head ache and Extreme pain going through my body. by back and legs has spasming Cramp Pains, but the muscles were not actually cramping. All points where I lay felt painful , pressure sores, all joints like legs crossed or arms felt bone on bone. If I had a knife I would have cut my Legs off, There was the horrible sensation of a feeling that worms or something was crawling within my legs. I took a couple of endones with eased it a little.
I was unable to move in bed to relieve he psi from lying in one position . The next morning my neuro phsyio came and she and Heather Moved me around in various positions. I spent the day in bed and in pain. Later in the evening I got up and wanted to do some book work, but after getting to the computer desk with assistance my neck start to give me screaming pain, it was starting to make me feel sick, With a walker and help from Heather I managed to get back into the bedroom. I struggled to get out of bed today, I have the district nurse coming today, so I suppose the rest of the day will be spent lying down flat.
I am not really handling the pain side of this disease well. since there is really no pain killers to treat it.
my physio said I should have rang an ambulance and gone to hospital but last couple of times i came out of hospital with some bug.

Sorry to hear of the after effects, possibly or probably from your accident Mario -

It sounds like your physio has his head screwed on right - we only hope he can assist you.

You have done very well coping and bearing with your conditions to date, we do hope that you can keep on keeping on - but it must be hard. You are doing your best mate!

You certainly are in the collective thoughts of all your friends and acquaintances in aulro.

That must be frustrating and scary. Hang in there. Listen to your physio.
