Ammonium nitrate leak at Greenacre rail yard Sydney

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

Wonder if the train was diesel? If there was no 'Fuel Oil' within coo-ee, it wouldn't be too dangerous a situation!

Even then 'ANFO' is a pretty stable explosive in itself.

    Good headlines, though!

Curse you, Bob. I'm now trying to picture someone in a foetal position but with their fingers in their ears!

Probably not a good time to relay the information about the procedure to take in the event of a nuclear explosion , back in the cold war days. Assume the at ease position, bend over, kiss your arse goodbye. This is the real reason military members always ensured they had clean underwear, at least in the early stages, because they wouldn't stay clean for long. Always make sure you carry out the procedure before it got to the latter stage, otherwise it could get messy. Stand easy .

When I saw the story, I thought, yep, another media beat-up. Haven't they heard of ANFO?

ANFO - Ammonium nitrate & fuel oil. Used everywhere in mines but normally needs a det. to set it off. But I suppose people will think of the recent huge explosion at the docks which devastated a city. Nothing like a bit of scaremongering to flog more papers.

PS. Actually in small amounts it can be used to cool cans of liquid gold off quickly..... we used to use it when camping in the bush when we got time off from mining. Not sure of the ratios needed for it to work.

There’s about 180t of the stuff about 450mtrs from my office right now.

Along with the bomb truck loading up to head off to load the shot for this afternoons blast.

I believe today we’re going with heavy ANFO as the ground needs a bit more “pop”

So, what set off the Lebanon explosion ? If it needs a detonator, is there more to that than meets the eye ? [ oh goody, a conspiracy theory]

I did say "normally" needs a det. If that in the Lebanon had been sitting around for years as they say, that may well have got to the stage where any heat would set it off. Anyway, nothing like a good old conspiracy to get the chatterers chattering.
