Better to forget the tax cuts for people with jobs and use the money to assist people who have lost their jobs.
Its not just that simple either. If you're wages are anywhere near the minimum wage .... and you're single with no kids. Your working 38hours a week, and aren't really a lot better off than someone on jobkeeper/job search. Infact you will probably find a lot of businesses will be struggling to find staff at the moment. What sort of insane person will give up job keeper/centerlink benefits to earn far less money by working casually/part time .........
I know some singles that work a 38hour week.... and complain bitterly as they know people sitting on jobseeker with a similar income to them (or far more if they have kids).... You'd have to be nuts to try and work and risk loosing the benefits.
JobKeeper is linked to having a job. If you lose your job you get transferred to JobSeeker, which is less money and has a lot of strings attached. They are different things.
Last time I checked there were at least 13 people on JobSeeker for each advertised job vacancy, higher in some areas.
This fantasy about armies of people refusing to work is just rubbish. Long discredited. It's just not true. Very few people are in that situation. It's also very insulting to the great majority of people who are genuinely seeking work. Most people have a strong work ethic. We should reject this garbage.
The reason almost 40% of workers are casuals is there just aren't enough full-time jobs. That was true well before the pandemic. That is the reality in the jobs market.
We should get our heads out of the past and recognize the way life really is now days. It's tough out there, much tougher than when I left school. It is what it is.
Oh come on.... Be nice :) I know the big company I work for would offshore every single job in the company if they could figure out a way to do it ............
Honest Government Ad | Trickledown Economics - YouTube
Didn't you see the government adds on the "trickle down economy" if you give there big business mates tax cuts ?
Tombie, in my 40 years in the workforce as employee and self-employed I never came across a private sector business that employed one more person than the bare minimum to do the job mostly a few heads short and everyone had to bust their rings to keep up. Any lovely cheap or free government money went to dividends to owners and shareholders and executive bonuses.
